Fabulous new selections for drinking pink... Thursday May 27th, 2021 New Rosé Arrivals Are Ready

Fabulous new selections for drinking pink... Thursday May 27th, 2021 [View in Browser]( [KL-emailheader.gif]( New Rosé Arrivals Are Ready to Impress This Summer “Standout offerings from California, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, and Champagne --------------------------------------------------------------- We believe rosé knows no season and it’s always a good time to drink pink, but there’s no denying that these wines really shine in the warmth and sun of summer patios and poolsides. To help you get a jump on your warm weather plans, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite new rosé arrivals from around the globe. Each and every one is a versatile crowd pleaser on its own or paired with your favorite summer fare, and like all great rosés, they’re made to impress with impeccable quality and character at fantastic prices. First up, we have two wonderfully expressive examples from right in our own backyard. The 2019 Grimm’s Bluff “River Stone” Santa Ynez Valley Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon takes this category in a direction we don’t often see. Straight-pressed from estate fruit grown in Happy Canyon’s Bordeaux varietal-friendly microclimate, it offers a surprisingly light and lithe character coupled with all the complexity you’d expect from Cabernet Sauvignon, even in pink form. Next, the 2020 Groundwork Paso Robles Rosé of Grenache comes to us from the talented winemaker behind the highly acclaimed Sans Liege label. Domestic buyer Kaj Stromer calls it “complex enough to stimulate your every sip while still being easygoing and laid-back...the prototypical poolside, easy-drinking mode.” Very little was made, so if you want to add this charmer to your summer repertoire, now is your best chance. [Rose] One of the most impressive regions for rosé of late has been New Zealand, and our long-time direct-import stalwart Te Whare Re (TWR) leads the way, to no one’s surprise. The “SV5182 - Single Vineyard” Marlborough Rosé, based on Pinot Noir, garnered 94 points from both of New Zealand’s most eminent critics, Bob Campbell and Sam Kim, with the former calling it “[i]mpressively pure and delicate.” Venturing over to the Old World, we have two of the most unique offerings you’ll find from Europe. While Provence never fails to deliver, we suggest branching out and trying an incredibly bright and refreshing version from Spain’s always avant garde Basque region. The 2019 Zudugarai "Amats" Rosé Getariako Txakolina combines a prominent red fruit profile with the characteristic light Txakolina spritz to make for the most refreshing poolside pour we can imagine. Make sure to have plenty of this one on hand, because it tends to vanish from the glass in no time at all when paired with the summer sun. A testament to how far rosé has come as a category in recent years, the 2020 G.D. Vajra “Rosabella” Vino Rosato Piemonte is a stunningly beautiful saignée Nebbiolo rosé from one of Barolo’s most iconic names. If Vajra is on the label, you know it’s the real deal. Finally, what would any rosé offer be without the likes of the Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé in the mix? Champagne’s most popular rosé needs no introduction, and it’s safe to say that for special occasions or any reason at all that calls for pink bubbles, this is the go-to performer time and again. We have a steady supply in formats ranging from 375ml half-bottles to 3L jeraboams, so whatever your Billecart fix requires, we’ve got it covered. The Sans Liege wines carry world-class pedigree and gravitas, while the Groundwork wines take that fundamental knowledge to express a level of comfort and carefree moments. If ever there was a producer who captures the ease and charm of the wines of southwest France, it's Curt and his Groundwork selections. [kajstromer.jpg]( Stromer]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: May 13, 2021 There's plenty of fresh strawberries and juicy watermelon here with a just a gentle squirt of citrus to frame the wine and give it lift. Along with a note of tea and herbs in the distance, this is complex enough to stimulate your every sip while still being easygoing and laid-back. Rosés come in many styles, and to be clear, this is the prototypical poolside, easy-drinking mode. This Grenache rosé from Paso Robles checks all the boxes for me. It's 100% tank fermented which means it retains a crisp and lively juiciness. It weighs in at a pleasantly low 12% alcohol, and at $14.99 it goes easy on the wallet. I strongly recommend you put a case away in your pantry now as not much was made. Enjoy a bottle every weekend with family and friends. This will be my spring fling. --------------------------------------------------------------- [2020 TWR (Te Whare Ra) "SV5182 - Single Vineyard" Rosé Marlborough]( TWR (Te Whare Ra) "SV5182 - Single Vineyard" Rosé Marlborough]( ($15.99) 94 points Bob Campbell: "Based on Pinot Noir, this pale-pink rosé has delicate raspberry, ripe pear, apple and a suggestion of red rose flavours. Impressively pure and delicate with a pleasantly dry finish. Highly recommended." (12/2020) 94 points Sam Kim: "Exquisitely charming and inviting, the bouquet shows nectarine, watermelon, lemon peel and white floral notes, leading to a finely focused palate that displays excellent fruit purity and persistency. It's elegant and refreshing, offering terrific drinking." (09/2020) 91 points James Suckling: "Bright strawberry and watermelon aromas with nectarine and peach, too. The palate has such juicy, fresh-peach flavor. Really fresh." (11/2020) [Giovanni Bueno]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: May 19, 2021 Buzzing with fresh acidity and a generous body, you'll be surprised by how savory this wine drinks while still maintaining fresh red fruit and citrus character. Made in a very dry, gently perfumed Provençal style, this is the first rosé TWR has made in a few years, and you should be very excited that they are back in the saddle with this offering. As you swirl the glass, aromas of wild strawberry, rose, watermelon candy, juicy red apples, and lemon rind climb out to meet your consciousness. A great mineral backbone charges with acidity, and it goes down quickly. It's begging to be opened up by the pool or for a light aperitif when you finally have your friends over. [Stephanie-Vidales.jpg]( Vidales]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: October 21, 2020 This is an absolutely delightful rosé from one of my favorite New Zealand direct imports. The inviting nose expresses floral, light red fruit and citrus notes that carry over onto the palate. It's medium bodied with bright acidity, which makes it super refreshing. You can't go wrong, especially at this price!/p> --------------------------------------------------------------- [2019 Grimm's Bluff "River Stone" Santa Ynez Valley Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon]( Grimm's Bluff "River Stone" Santa Ynez Valley Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon]( ($16.95) [ryanwoodhouse.gif]( Woodhouse]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: May 07, 2021 You don't see many Cabernet Sauvignon based rosé wines, but this one is fantastic! Early-picked, straight-pressed Cabernet from Grimm's Bluff's organic and biodynamically farmed estate in the Happy Canyon sub-region of Santa Ynez Valley. Bright, crunchy red fruits, fresh herbs, stoney mineral, spice citrus peel. Totally delicious! [stevebearden.gif]( Bearden]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: May 07, 2021 An interesting and refreshing wine that starts with scents of fresh rainwater then jumps into herb-infused, fresh citrus flavors. A rather lingering and complex finish for a rosé. [dulcineagonzalez.jpg]( Gonzalez]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: May 06, 2021 Grimm's Bluff Rosé is simply jubilant. In a line-up of heavy hitter domestic rosés, this Happy Canyon creation clearly stood out above the rest. Super expressive, a total delight on the nose and palate, this rosé follows through with a crisp, charming character from sniff to finish. Love! --------------------------------------------------------------- [2019 Zudugarai "Amats" Rosé Getariako Txakolina]( Zudugarai "Amats" Rosé Getariako Txakolina]( ($16.99) "Amats" is both the brand name of the Txakoli as well as one of Zudugarai's vineyards. It's a beautiful vineyard, a sandy substrate covered in naturally growing green cover between the rows, with the Cantabrian Sea in full view to the north. Produced from Hondarribi Beltza grapes, this rosé shows a lovely balance between fresh red berries, hints of watermelon, a very subtle, pleasant bitterness, and fizzy quality. It's delicious with cured cheeses (something slightly smoky like Idiazabal works really well), charcuterie, anchovies, or your favorite cured ham (prosciutto, serrano, or anything from Iowa's own La Quercia!) [kajstromer.jpg]( Stromer]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: May 25, 2021 Few wines can slake your thirst better than this insanely refreshing, crisp, dry wine from the Basque region of Spain. It may look like a mouthful to pronounce, but our Amats Rosé is a pleasure to drink. More commonly known for their white wine, we get an allocation of this rare rosé but once a year. Simply put, the wine is as fresh as they come with hints of strawberry, raspberry, and just the lightest touch of effervescence to give it a little bit of lip tingle. The wine is refreshingly dry and is the no-brainer match for washing down a plate full of fresh seafood, shrimp, crab, oysters, and so much more. At 10.5% alcohol, this might be the greatest lunch or brunch wine on the market. It's one of our most successful summertime sippers and an annual staff favorite. Just ask for the Amats Rosé, we'll know what you want! --------------------------------------------------------------- [2020 G. D. Vajra "Rosabella" Vino Rosato Piemonte]( G. D. Vajra "Rosabella" Vino Rosato Piemonte]( ($17.99) As rosé season is upon us, this is a welcome addition to any lineup of patio stars. One of Piedmont's luminary estates, Vajra produces this rosato in the saignée method, whereby a portion of red must is "bled off" from the fermentation before full color extraction takes place. The blend is 90% Nebbiolo and 10% Barbera & Dolcetto from a mix of Vajra's vineyards, all at least 10 years old. [jeffreyjones.gif]( Jones]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: April 25, 2021 This rose looks very inviting in the bottle, which showcases the beautiful, light pink wine. In the nose, it is beautiful with hints of summer red fruits. In the mouth, it is light, round and pretty, with a clean crisp finish. It will show best with food. --------------------------------------------------------------- [Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé Champagne]( Brut Rosé Champagne]( ($79.99) 93 points James Suckling: "Cinnamon and dried nutmeg add to the experience of bread dough and rose petals. Flavorful on the medium-bodied palate and finely poised with bright acidity. Medium-long on the finish." (05/2019) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The palest of rosés, this is an elegant, structured wine. Its dryness is balanced by the fine apple and red-currant fruits and the strong sense of minerality. Fragrant and lightly structured, this fine bottling is ready to drink. (RV)" (12/2020) 92 points Wine Spectator: "A lively rosé Champagne with a pleasing, citrusy juiciness to the flavors of steeped raspberry, white peach and blanched almond. A subtle thread of chalky minerality winds through the finish. (AN)" (12/2020) [gary.gif]( Westby]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: May 12, 2021 This is the benchmark in rosé Champagne, and it deserves every bit of its fame. I find it elegant and balanced every time that I have it, and the blushing pink color is always perfect. If you are looking for a famous producer that delivers the goods, the Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé Champagne is a great choice. I like the wine best as an aperitif; the only thing you need to pair with is a good glass. --------------------------------------------------------------- [New Feed]( [Auction]( [Local]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [On the Trail (K&L Blog)]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [Instagram]( [Instagram]( [Facebook]( [Twitter]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [BORDEAUX]( | [NAPA]( | [BURGUNDY]( | [CHAMPAGNE]( | [ITALY]( | [RHÔNE]( | [SPIRITS]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [My Account]( | [Wine Clubs]( | [Events]( |[Gift Cards]( | [Accessories]( | [Delivery]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Missed an offer?
