[AtaRangi] --------------------------------------------------------------- First up is a New Zealand Pinot that provides some truly excellent drinking. The 2018 Ata Rangi "Crimson" Pinot Noir Martinborough is a snappy little bottling that James Suckling calls “[o]ne of the best value wines on the planet, hands down!” Even better, we have it at a super-sharp price, so load up on this beauty while you still can. We all know by now that 2019 is a banner vintage in the Mosel, producing wines of historic quality. Well, when you combine this kind of vintage with a legendary vineyard and a first-class producer, that thrilling combination results in wines like the 2019 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett Mosel. This savvy collectible is a steal at a sub-$45 price. Speaking of incredible vintages, the 2015s from Tuscany have been stellar performers, and the 99-point 2015 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino is no exception. In his superlative-filled review, James Suckling says, “[i]t flows from the center palate in a beautiful sheet of fruit and tannins.” Sure to be a cellar champion, this is one you shouldn’t miss. And finally, those searching for greatness from Bordeaux will want to look carefully at the 2000 Château Branon from Pessac-Léognan. Robert Parker said it best when he remarked “[e]veryone at the tasting where this wine was presented was rocked (or should I say shocked) by the greatness of this wine.” It’s a back-vintage gem that you could open tonight with a good decant, but still has ample life in front of it.
