97-Point 2013 and 94-Point 2014 at Blink-and-You’ll-Miss-It Pricing… Friday Dec 4th, 2020 [View in Browser]( [KL-emailheader.gif]( Bordeaux-Inspired, Flagship Collectible Cali Reds at 60% Off “Simply unbelievable value!” — Ryan Woodhouse, K&L Domestic Buyer --------------------------------------------------------------- For time-sensitive bottles this December, please get your orders in early. We just secured winery-direct, library vintages that would likely be instant bestsellers without any additional fanfare. But at over 60% off, they are easily some of the must-have collectibles of 2020. From a landmark vintage, the 2013 is a 97-pointer according to Dunnuck, who calls it a "quintessential expression of Cabernet Franc." Not far behind, the 2014 was praised by Galloni for its "striking depth and textural nuance." Suffice to say, what's in the bottle far outpaces our modest one-time pricing. Sourced almost all from the Alexander Mountain Estate and aged in 20% new French oak, its singular purple color is followed by an incredible bouquet of crème de cassis, black cherries, damp earth, and spring flowers. This sensational red hits the palate with a huge, opulent texture, perfect balance, and ultra-fine tannin. Count me impressed by this quintessential expression of Cabernet Franc from Sonoma. Its straight up awesome today yet is going to keep for two decades or more." (06/2018) K&L Notes: Captûre wines are devoted to showcasing the rugged terroir of the Mayacamas Mountains. The wines are sourced from their estate vineyard some 3000 feet in elevation at the top of Cloverdale Peak, along with other top vineyards in Knights Valley and Alexander Valley. These vineyards all share the same rocky volcanic soils of the Mayacamas and produce wines of both structure and elegance. Originally founded by the late, great, Denis Malbec, Captûre continues to fashion wines from traditional Bordeaux varietals to showcase this spectacular terroir. (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L Domestic Wine Buyer) [ryanwoodhouse.gif]( Woodhouse]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: November 22, 2020 This wine immediately made an impact on me from the first sniff. I was mesmerized by the complexity of the nose. The aromas run the full spectrum from high toned florals of lilac and violet, through a range of black/blue fruits, cassis, olallieberry, deep red currant, and raspberry preserve. A few more swirls and I found bass notes of turned earth, mountain chaparral, cedar, leather, dried herbs. Such a fascinating wine from the get go. The palate is very refined and poised. There's plenty of those rich dark fruit flavors promised by the nose, a touch of cocoa powder, then more of those savory, briary characters and some subtle oak spice. The tannin structure is beautifully fine and resolved, the wine feels super elegant on the mid-weight palate. This wine really isn't about an explosion of in your face fruit—it's more layered and even paced, building intrigue and engagement like a good book. Being from the exceptional 2013 vintage this wine is drinking beautifully right now but clearly has the composure to keep for another decade at least. --------------------------------------------------------------- [2014 Captûre "Harmonie" Alexander Valley Red Blend (Previously $100+)]( [2014 Captûre "Harmonie" Alexander Valley Red Blend (Previously $100+)]( ($29.99) 94 points Vinous: "A dark, sumptuous wine, the 2014 Harmonie possesses striking depth and textural nuance in all of its dimensions. Succulent red cherry, plum, tobacco, licorice and mocha are given an extra kick of energy and aromatic lift from the Cabernet Franc in the blend. (AG)" (03/2017) [ryanwoodhouse.gif]( Woodhouse]( | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: November 22, 2020 Tasted alongside the 2013 Harmonie, these wines are clearly related with similar complex noses built on layers of deep, brooding fruit and lots of savory aspects of the varietals and soil driven qualities. They're both fascinating wines that I savored for a few hours while writing these notes. This wine seemed the more muscular and tightly woven of the two. Concentrated black and deep red fruits are beautifully interwoven with notes of bramble, scorched cedar, cigar box, mountain sage and dusty earth and leather. Opens nicely in the glass, with the fruit getting a little softer and fleshier on the palate after a few good swirls. Lovely oak integration gives a complimentary kiss of sweet spice box and smoke to the brawny fruit. Very serious wine, beautiful now with a hearty cut of red meat (standing rib roast anyone?) and a great contender for the cellar. I expect this to only get better for the next 5 years and probably drink well for the next 10-15. Simply unbelievable value! --------------------------------------------------------------- [New Feed]( [Auction]( [Local]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [On the Trail (K&L Blog)]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [Twitter]( [Facebook]( [Instagram]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [BORDEAUX]( | [NAPA]( | [BURGUNDY]( | [CHAMPAGNE]( | [ITALY]( | [RHÔNE]( | [SPIRITS]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [My Account]( | [Wine Clubs]( | [Events]( |[Gift Cards]( | [Accessories]( | [Delivery]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Missed an offer?
