This week's highlights include: 2018 Fabien Collonge Beaujolais Rosé — The Perfect Summer Rosé Fabien Collonge is a young winemaker from Beaujolais who we met on our recent trip to the region and who presented us with a rosé of Gamay that absolutely knocked our socks off. There is no pretense in his approach to winemaking; his goals are to create terroir-driven wines that are both fun and enjoyable. This is a wine that's fresh, crisp, and clean on the palate with a supple weight and pure flavors of fresh strawberries and spice. This is the affordable rosé you need a case of for the warm months ahead. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2016 Ferrero "Pepita" Rosso di Toscana — An Outstanding Italian Bargain Pablo Härri arrived in Italy from Switzerland in the early '80s and met his partner and wife Claudia Ferrero while both were working at a large winery in Montalcino. The two started a family and in 2002 built their own winery in a restored barn and stable. Today, the couple produces wine from 14 acres of vineyard: 7.5 in Montalcino and slightly more than 6 in Montenero d'Orcia. The 2016 Pepita is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano and Alicante. --------------------------------------------------------------- The Attractively Priced White Burgundies of Domaine Renaud Once in a great while you find wines from the Mâcon so good that tasting them blind you are forced to apply some much higher (and more expensive) appellation to it. Often, such a wine comes from hillside vineyards, with better drainage and cooler nights. This is such a wine, from the slopes below the giant monolith of rock that is Solutré. Domaine Renaud is a small operation, making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St-Veran from 12 hectares of estate vineyards. This value is a great alternative to California Chardonnay and an entry into white Burgundy. --------------------------------------------------------------- A Riveting 97-point Super Tuscan from Tenuta Argentiera Wine Advocate's Monica Larner writes of the 2016 Argentiera, "This is a dark and penetrating Tuscan red that is beautifully elevated, thanks to the extremely elegant and buoyant quality of the aromas. They lift gracefully from the glass with light-footed, almost fleeting character. However, don't underestimate the power and the concentration of the wine, because this vintage delivers both with abundance. I've had my eye on this estate since the vineyards were first planted some 20 years ago, and there is no doubt that this vintage brings Tenuta Argentiera into a new era as a Bolgheri protagonist."
