Featuring wines from Chappellet, Wines of Substance, Orin Swift, and many more... Monday Jul 30th, 2018 [View in Browser]( 2016 in the Southern Rhone is simply a not-to-be-missed vintage of the highest caliber. The last time we saw this kind of unrivaled quality was for the 2010s - a vintage that is nearly impossible to find these days as collectors have held tight to the best bottlings of that year. Most collectors would cherish the opportunity to strike again on a vintage of that quality, and that is exactly what we are looking at now. It is the perfect time to go deep on a thrilling vintage that will only become more elusive and expensive from here… “Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s monumental 2015 vintage was a tough act to follow, but 2016 was up to the challenge. In fact, in many cases the wines from this uniformly outstanding warm year actually outclass – or at least outmuscle – their older siblings.” - Josh Raynolds, Vinous As Decanter put it: “Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2016 red wines [are] among the standard bearers for one of the best Southern Rhône vintages in recent memory.” The accolades for the 2016s have continued to pour in with many producers and critics calling it “the best ever.” In point of fact, Wine Spectator gives 2016 a potential score of 99 points which would make it their highest ever rated for the Rhône Valley. Such praise is well deserved, as the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Papes are, at once, beguiling and supremely satisfying. They offer wonderful depth of fruit, layered complexity, precision, and balance. While only time will tell, the 2016s are poised to outpace such legendary vintages as: 2010, 2005, 1990, 1989, and 1961. “The 2016s are on another level... truly an extraordinary vintage.” - Jeb Dunnuck Simply put, this is a vintage that’s not to be missed This month’s newsletter surveys this remarkable vintage in the Rhône with a special focus on Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Here you’ll find favorites from Beaucastel, Vieux Télégraphe, Usseglio and many more. Highlighted below is a carefully curated selection of the top 2016s. These are wines that beautifully captured the brilliance of this more than remarkable vintage. [Click Here to View Our Electronic Newsletter]( "2016 is hands down the best young vintage I have seen." - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator --------------------------------------------------------------- Beyond Châteauneuf-du-Pape While the focus here is on Châteauneuf, we’d be remiss not to also highlight other Southern Rhône appellations that did extraordinarily well in 2016. This set delivers both the freshness and energy of the vintage, all are very affordably priced, and some might outperform their CdP brethren. These are excellent candidates to enjoy early and often, but you’ll also want to lay a few bottles down as they have scaffolding to develop for years. Here you’ll find cellar-worthy selections that won’t break the bank. From a Janasse release that “could be mistaken for the Vieilles Vignes” to the extremely refined and classic Marcoux, these would champion other lesser vintages with ease. Highly rated and priced mostly under $50, these are classic wines that every collector should own. Beaucastel, Clos des Papes, Vieux Télégraphe are a few of the estates that have come to define the essence of this singular region. All achieved top marks in 2016; living up to (and exceeding) already high expectations. Although they always seem to be available in quantity, they also quickly become elusive and more expensive as time goes on. This set not only captured the attention of the critics, but also have built a reputation among collectors as the most cherished of bottlings. The rare Marcoux Vieilles Vignes holds the crown for top wine of the vintage from Vinous. Other V.V. releases from Grand Veneur and Janasse have 100-point pedigree from Dunnuck and seem to be headed in that direction again. Other sleepers include Janasse’s Chaupin, the always-terrific Bosquet des Papes releases, and Usselgio’s “Mon Aïeul.” Vintage Item Name Score Retail Link 2016 Bosquet des Papes "A la Glorie de Mon Grand Père" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival) 97 $59.99 [View]( 2016 Bosquet des Papes "Chante le Merle" Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (Pre-Arrival) 96 $59.99 [View]( 2016 Chateau de Vaudieu "Amiral G" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival) 100 $99.99 [View]( 2016 Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (Pre-Arrival) 99 $79.99 [View]( 2016 Domaine de la Janasse "Chaupin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival) 100 $74.99 [View]( 2016 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (Pre-Arrival) 100 $99.99 [View]( 2016 Domaine de Marcoux "Vieilles Vignes" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival) 98 $149.99 [View]( 2016 Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes 99 $89.99 [View]( 2016 Domaine Pierre Usseglio "Cuvee Mon Aïeul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival) 100 $79.99 [View]( 2016 Raymond Usseglio "Cuvée Impériale - Vignes Centenaires" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival) 100 $64.99 [View]( These products are expected to arrive for shipment or pickup by October 2018. --------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on: Check Out Our Blog: [Twitter]( [Instagram]( [On the Trail (K&L Blog)]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [My Account]( | [Wine Clubs]( | [Events]( |[Gift Cards]( | [Accessories]( | [Shipping]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Missed an offer?
