Get beyond the cereal bowl with these fresh-baked treats. Sunday Recipe Inspiration with PJ Batch 41

Get beyond the cereal bowl with these fresh-baked treats. [logo]( Sunday Recipe Inspiration with PJ Batch 410 [Pumpkin Streusel Coffeecake]( As cooler fall weather settles in and your energy level starts to rise, it's time to ditch the simple (read: becoming boring) morning repasts you've been making for months and take off on a new path. Fall is the time for heartier yet still uncomplicated breakfasts: something you can make in the morning without a ton of fuss, or anything you can bake ahead and toast or reheat to its original glory. Think "easy" and "delicious:" two of my favorite kitchen words! The following recipes are some personal favorites, ones I've been making for years (or in some cases decades). Trendy? Not at all. Stodgy? Not that, either. If I had to categorize these I'd call them boomer recipes: older, yeah, but still bringing it — in this case, to the breakfast table. These breakfast treats may be long-time standbys, but they're also standouts. Which one will you make first? [Tuscan Coffeecake](: This is not your all-American coffeecake. Instead, think a round of chewy, barely sweet yeast bread filled with walnuts, dates, and raisins, then brushed with a clear vanilla-sugar glaze that bakes into an entrancing crackly-crunchy topping. Tuscan toast with brown butter? Yes, please. [Bacon Cheddar Chive Scones](: Scones are a long-time favorite at King Arthur. Starting with our original test kitchen crew (me and Brinna Sands) 31 years ago, we've never stopped thinking of new flavor combinations. Witness: King Arthur now has 58 scone recipes on our site. And when I want one that's savory rather than sweet — well, you can't beat bacon and melted cheddar encased in a crumble-at-first-touch scone, can you? [Zella Lane's 2-Week Bran Muffins](: First, who's Zella Lane? The radio voice of Betty Crocker back in the day — and a secret King Arthur fan! Prep the thick, chunky batter for her dark, surprisingly tender muffins way ahead (like up to several weeks). Cover and refrigerate, then bake as many (or few) muffins as you like on any particular morning. Just the two of you? Use individual muffin cups or small ramekins and bake in your toaster oven or (yes!) air fryer. [Pumpkin Streusel Coffeecake]( (above): My mom always got up early to make her special dense-yet-tender cinnamon streusel coffeecake on Sunday morning. (Remember when Sunday was a leisurely day off?) This autumn-y take on that weekend classic adds pumpkin to the batter for a moist, deep-gold cake both filled and topped with tender-crunchy cinnamon streusel. Amen to that! [Old-Fashioned Maine Sourdough Waffles](: Finest kind! I lived in Maine for years and I'll tell you, there's no tastier way to use your discard sourdough starter than in these crispy, light waffles. With medium tang and that indescribable, irresistible flavor produced when waffle batter meets hot oiled iron, you'll be glad this recipe makes plenty; trust me, they'll all disappear.
