Here are a few: [Break the millionaire plane] [We don't do resolutions] [2022 is going to be an amazing year of fun] [Three months sabbatical visiting in-laws] What I love about these resolutions is the focus on the freedom to do what you want to do â taking family vacations, taking sabbaticals, and working on finding better work. For those of you with resolutions to start your own business, stay tuned â next week Iâll have some thoughts on how you can start and build a business in 2022. --------------------------------------------------------------- Rich Life chronicles: My trip to Japan I talk often about how an online business can help you live a Rich Life, but what does it actually mean? Hereâs a really specific example of MY Rich Life: my trip to Japan with my wife a few years ago. [My trip to Japan] The trip hit all the things I LOVE: - Beauty
- Simplicity
- Being totally present on my trip, knowing my business is running without me being there
- And my favorite of all ⦠LOGISTICS I share all about the trip [here](), but for this email, I want to focus on THE FOOD. There were coffee machines everywhere, but almost no garbage cans. You never see anyone walking around and eating/drinking like in the USA. One reminder (among many) of how differently the Japanese consume food. This was a pretty amazing meal: [My trip to Japan] I liked the food but sometimes we got intimidated: [Asian friends please help!] One of my goals is to show you that you can live your Rich Life â however you want to define it. If it means a trip to Japan where you can eat amazing food, take the bullet train, go all around Tokyo and Kyoto ⦠awesome. If itâs something totally different for you, thatâs great too. One of the coolest things about this trip was knowing that my business was running while I was gone. I hardly checked email. The systems Iâve set up worked beautifully. I can't share all the pictures in this email, so [click here]() to see everything I shared. --------------------------------------------------------------- âI live in constant fear my $425K income is not enoughâ On this weekâs episode of the I Will Teach You To Be Rich podcast, we meet Lauren and Alex. Lauren and Alex earn $425,000 a year, and they just bought a $1.3 million home. But Lauren lives in a constant state of financial fear. Despite their considerable income, sheâs terrified of the infinite âWhat ifs?â that could appear and take everything away. âWhat if I lose my clients?â âWhat if Alex becomes unable to work?â âWhat if we end up spending so much maintaining our house that we go broke?â The problem is that fixating on these sorts of questions doesnât allow any time to consider things like âWhat if none of that happens and we get to live out our rich lives happily ever after?â Here are some highlights to listen for this week: - A new mortgage, four cars, significant income ⦠but it still doesnât feel like enough. Where did Laurenâs fear come from? (Hint: 90% of the time, financial fear comes from this source.)
- Lauren thinks she wants one thing (a beach house) but in reality wants something else (making family memories). Follow along as I lead Lauren through the process to make this discovery.
- At the start of the episode, Alex and Lauren canât agree on whether theyâre doing OK financially or not. By the end, theyâve staked out a direction to move forward together. Listen carefully to how they work out that direction. Do you think it could work for you also? Many of us believe that if we change the number in our bank account, our feelings will change. But that rarely happens. Listen this week as I help Lauren and Alex work through their feelings about money. How do you say "yes" when we're dealing with the constant stress of worrying about income? Here's how one reader, Sara, found her balance: "Iâm a small business owner and weâve been in financial lockdown since COVID hit. Pinching every penny, worrying about when the next shoe would drop, and wondering when our clients will ever get back to their pre-pandemic behaviors. Because my husband and I work directly with the public, weâve gone nowhere and seen no one to keep our community safe. We havenât taken a vacation or spent on much that wasnât a necessity in the last two years. Reaching burnout this summer, my husband suggested we take a few days off and rent a cottage on the ocean in Maine. We looked at options and decided not to do it. It was a lot of money. Rentals were scarce. I was worried that it was frivolous to drop a couple of racks just to be by the water for a minute in these uncertain times. But I gave my husband I Will Teach You to Be Rich for Christmas last year. He told me, 'We donât work this hard to just work this hard.' I was reluctant to splurge, but I also know itâs critical to work on my mindset around money and to learn to enjoy my life. We booked a stunning art-deco home on a private beach on the ocean and spent a stupid amount of money for two nights of peace and beauty and enjoying one anotherâs company. We played pingpong and cribbage and cooked amazing dinners together. We had a front-row seat to the first hurricane in New England in 30 years and slept like babies with the sounds of the ocean crashing in our ears. As our kids drank in the hurricane-making landfall from the porch of our gorgeous rental, he turned to me and said, 'This is our rich life.'"
