Dear Friend, Fight back against trophy hunting and Big Industry attacks on bears and their cubs, and donate $27 today to make twice the impact. It takes just one bullet to kill a mama bear. One bullet to leave her orphaned cubs struggling, starving, and unable to fight off predators. One bullet to completely decimate an entire bear family. Our country’s bears are under attack, and as they begin to come out of hibernation this spring, it could be their last. [Protect mama bears, their cubs, and the planet and make a $27 contribution to Friends of the Earth today, and your gift will be MATCHED -- dollar for dollar -- up to $180,000, but only until midnight TOMORROW!]( Maryland already DOUBLED the bear slaughter over the previous year, killing 103 black bears in the state. This could be the future for states like Wyoming -- as they push the federal government to remove Endangered Species Act protections for grizzly bears, they are already planning to TRIPLE the number of grizzlies than previously proposed. Trophy hunters in the Northern Rockies are chomping at the bit to remove ESA protections for iconic grizzly bears. They’ve made numerous attempts to delist them in hopes of ruthlessly murdering them during the hunting season, and they show no signs of stopping. We need to act fast to protect grizzlies -- cubs and adults. Protect vulnerable species and our planet with a $27 donation today while your gift will be matched, dollar for dollar! If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [$27 donation + $27 match = $54 impact]( [$50 donation + $50 match = $100 impact]( [$100 donation + $100 match = $200 impact]( [Donate another amount]( If delisted, grizzlies could be treated as horribly as vulnerable wolves currently are -- with Wyoming allowing a shoot-on-sight approach across the state. Pro-trophy hunting officials are looking to steamroll the delisting of grizzlies without public comment or review, which means grizzly bears are coming dangerously close to being caught in the crosshairs during the next hunt -- we can’t let it come to that. A top predator, grizzlies play a pivotal role in keeping our ecosystem healthy and in balance. Standing up to eight feet tall and weighing up to 800 pounds, these intelligent omnivores enhance biodiversity, enrich soils, regulate prey populations, and transport nutrients through different ecosystems as they roam far and wide. Scientists are continuously discovering more and more ways grizzlies play a pivotal role in the ecosystems they inhabit. Today, faced with shrinking habitat, the loss of critical food sources, and many impacts of climate change, grizzly bears are struggling to survive. Their populations outside Alaska have plummeted to a mere 2% of their historic population and are restricted to only 1% of their historic range. Fewer and fewer cubs are surviving to reach adulthood, and adult bears are dying more quickly because of rapid changes -- from a shifting food supply to being forced to hibernate later and later in the fall. Fewer than 2,000 grizzlies remain in the lower 48 states -- and about 700 of those call the Greater Yellowstone area home. Now, grizzlies are under attack by the trophy hunting lobby looking to add them to their list of kills, and oil, logging, and mining companies looking to weaken protections on the public lands that these bears call home for drilling, logging, and mining -- permanently destroying these wildlife habitats. Protect vulnerable bears from trophy hunters and private interests. Rush your $27 donation before the clock strikes midnight tomorrow and your giving power will be doubled! If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [$27 donation + $27 match = $54 impact]( [$50 donation + $50 match = $100 impact]( [$100 donation + $100 match = $200 impact]( [Donate another amount]( Endangered species laws provide critical protection for America’s iconic animal species. They are also some of our most effective safeguards in the fight to protect our public lands and curb catastrophic climate change. If the GOP attacks on the ESA succeed, these harmful industries will have an even easier time drilling, fracking, mining, and operating massive factory farms. For the sake of our wildlife and our planet, we can’t let Big Polluters and their cronies in Congress destroy our public lands and wipe out our endangered species. At Friends of the Earth, we are using every tool available to protect endangered species and our planet -- not Big Industry’s profits. We know how to fight and win, and that’s exactly what we plan to do. Today, we are asking you to stand with us as we continue this work with your membership gift. We all need to raise our voices in defense of vulnerable species. Together, we have the power to stop these killings, defend wildlife and protect vital species before we lose them for good. Make your $27 contribution now, before it’s too late. This Earth Day, join the fight to protect bears, endangered species, and our planet. Donate $27 now and have it matched dollar for dollar.
