Today is World Oceans Day, Friend. Our oceans are home to countless unique species, including the last 74 Southern Resident orcas in the world. Dear Friend, Today is World Oceans Day, Friend. Our oceans are home to countless unique species, including the last 74 Southern Resident orcas in the world. But sadly, these precious whales are starving, stressed and struggling to survive. That’s why we can’t waste this special opportunity to protect them – not when they're one major oil spill away from extinction. In honor of orcas and World Oceans Day, we’ve set a midnight fundraising goal of $55,000 – and we're counting on your support to help stop threats like Big Oil and protect orcas and our planet before it’s too late. But we pulled your record, and here’s what we found: [SUPPORTER RECORD]( EMAIL: {EMAIL} DEADLINE: 11:59 P.M. TONIGHT SOUTHERN RESIDENT ORCAS: Approaching EXTINCTION SUPPORTERS NEEDED FROM YOUR AREA: 17 MORE [RUSH A DONATION]( Records reflect most recent available data. World Oceans Day ends at 11:59 p.m. Without immediate action, Southern Resident orcas could soon plummet toward extinction. Earlier this year, the youngest baby orca in the Southern Resident orca pod was presumed dead after just a month of life. Sadly, this isn’t a rare occurrence – so many of these baby orcas never make it to adulthood. They starve to death as babies or aren’t even born due to lack of food and toxins in their environment. The Southern Resident pods are a close-knit family, and every death shakes them to their core. Weak, stressed and grieving orcas can’t withstand the onslaught of fossil fuel and industrial shipping projects tearing through their habitats. But Big Oil is intent on chasing profit no matter the cost to these endangered whales. We can’t let these vulnerable whales down – and we need your help. Please, help us reach our crucial World Oceans Day goal by MIDNIGHT TONIGHT to stop corporate greed from destroying our oceans and pushing our planet towards DESTRUCTION. Will you donate $10 or more to Friends of the Earth now before it’s too late to meet our $55,000 goal for vulnerable orcas, oceans, and the planet? If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Donate $10 immediately]( [Donate $27 immediately]( [Donate $50 immediately]( [Donate another amount]( There’s never been a more urgent time to help save the whales and our planet. Here’s what we’re up against: - The new Roberts Bank Terminal 2 is moving forward with construction, and the increase in shipping traffic will be devastating. - Plus, a huge expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline is bringing millions more barrels of dirty tar sands oil in tanker ships through these orcas’ delicate habitat. - These projects would drastically increase the likelihood of an oil spill – and just one major oil spill may seal the death sentence for the last 74 Southern Resident orcas. Right now, corporate greed is winning – and endangered orcas will pay the price. These whales will struggle to hunt for food that’s hard enough to find as it is. They’ll swim around in confusion, searching for each other when shipping noise affects their sonar signals. And they will even face outright collisions with speeding ships. It gets worse, Friend. These projects would bring devastating pollution to nearby communities – putting their health and livelihoods at risk. People could soon be watching the sea life they rely on wither away before their very eyes. When an oil spill happens, coastal communities will be left with toxic ocean waters and livelihoods destroyed. If we don’t do anything, it will be just a matter of time until Big Oil wipes out endangered orcas and leaves coastal communities struggling. Please, we’re counting on your membership support to help us save these dying orcas and protect communities, oceans and the planet. But right now, it looks like we’re falling short – and our goal is critical to protecting a future for orcas and our only Earth. We can’t get there without your help. Rush your World Oceans Day donation of $10 or more now to help Friends of the Earth reach our $55,000 goal to protect our oceans, people and our planet while we still can.
