Laureato Chronograph Ti49, the integrated sports watch gets a titanium upgrade to mark its 49th anniversary Girard-Perregaux celebrates the 49th anniversary of Laureato with the new titanium Laureato Chronograph Ti49 Laureato Chronograph Ti49, the integrated sports watch gets a titanium upgrade to mark its 49th anniversary. Girard-Perregaux is among the worldâs finest watch manufacturers. Founded in 1791, with over 233 years of uninterrupted history, they hold over 100 watchmaking patents and produce all of their components in-house, at their manufacture in the heart of Swiss watchmakingâLa Chaux-de-Fonds. Starting life as an integrated steel sports watch with a quartz movement in 1975, the Laureato has evolved to become a recognisable titan among mechanical watches today. The brand reintroduced Laureato in 2016, after a hiatus, to mark 225 years of the Swiss manufacture. In 2017, it became a part of the brandâs core offeringsâa true celebration of the icon that it was. Today this icon is a mainstay for the brand. Today, with versions like the open-worked, chronographs, sapphire crystal and carbon case, it still boasts the recognisable 1970s octagonal bezel on a rounded case and integrated bracelet. One would think theyâve done it all. And yet, as the collection turns 49 this year, the brand innovate yet again with titanium in their timepieces. The new Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Ti49 comes in a grade-5 titanium case and integrated bracelet in its natural metallic matt grey form. The graduate turns 49 with the Ti49 Girard-Perregaux celebrates the 49th anniversary of this iconic collection with an all-titanium chronograph timepiece- the Laureato Chronohraph Ti49. Strictly speaking, this isnât the first Laureato timepiece featuring a titanium case. However, this is the first time the material has been showcased in all its muted matt grey glory. The 42mm case of the Laureato Chronograph Ti49 is made from grade-5 titanium with the signature integrated bracelet in titanium. The watch also features another signature element of the collection, the stunning Clous de Paris motif on the dial. Literally meaning ânails of Parisâ, and often referred to in English as âhobnail patternâ, this decorative pattern has been used to enhance the appearance of metal parts especially in watch dials and rotors since the 18th century. It features brushed and polished finishes that highlight the aesthetic appeal of the metal. The bezel, for instance, is polished on its faceted sides, while its top features a brushed finish. The integrated bracelet further enhances this with the H-links in a brushed finish, while the centre links stand out with their polished sheen. These contrasting finishes, coupled with the multi-layer construction of the case and octagonal bezel enhance the visual depth of the Laureato Chronograph Ti49. Grade 5 titanium is composed of almost 90% titanium, 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium and small traces of iron and oxygen. A further benefit of using this particular form of titanium alloy is that it can be polished to a brilliant gleam, a characteristic that Girard-Perregaux has wonderfully used in its latest model. A minute track marked in white sits around the periphery of the dial. Baton shaped, applied hour markers and hands are treated in grey PVD, and filled with Super-LumiNova to aid legibility. The hobnail motif of the dial is disrupted by three chronograph counters at three, six and nine oâclock, featuring a contrasting radial finish, and numerals painted on in a light grey. In keeping with the monochromatic theme of the timepiece, a rhombic date window sits discreetly at 4.30, visible when you look for it, but otherwise quietly nestled between the chronograph recorders.
