Stunning dials made of textured malachite and sparkling Lapis Lazuli Introducing the Jacob & Co. P

Stunning dials made of textured malachite and sparkling Lapis Lazuli Introducing the Jacob & Co. Palatial Classic with exotic stone dials The Jacob & Co. Palatial Classic's exotic new stone dials in textured malachite & lapiz lazuli stand out with very little to distract from the powerful nature of the stone Jacob & Co.’s Palatial Classic collection consists of some of the most subdued creations by a brand known for its bling. However, despite the no-bling look, these watches are unquestionably ornate, with robust 42mm cases housing dials in a guilloche pattern, or with mineral watch faces, as in the case of the latest stone dials in malachite, lapis lazuli and black onyx. Stone dials have been around since the 1960s, when the Art Deco movement inspired watchmakers to introduce colours of bright precious and semi-precious stones on their timepieces. Over the years, mineral dials have become more popular, although crafting these dials requires expertise that only a few brands can boast. The texture and patterns on these minerals lend a unique dimension to the watch they are housed in. The opulence of precious minerals These new Jacob & Co. Palatial Classic timepieces offer dial options in blue lapis lazuli, green malachite and black onyx, in a sizeable 42mm case. The thickness of the case is a comfortable 13.5mm. The polished case lends the watch a classy aesthetic, and the curved lugs make it look even dressier. Protected by guards, the crown is engraved with a Jacob & Co. logo. The dials themselves are protected by a sapphire crystal glass with antireflective treatment. Polished dauphine rose gold or rhodium-plated indexes and hands enhance the elegant aesthetic of the dial. At 12 o’clock is a double-digit date in a rose gold or silver framed window. The Jacob & Co. logo sits neatly under this big date display. By doing away with that circular concentric frame, present in the Guilloché dial version, the brand has instead highlighted the beautiful pattern on the stones. At six o’clock is a power reserve indicator, with an outline that matches the metal of the case, and marked in numerals of 48, 24 and zero, which means the watch needs to be wound. Palatial Classic feature a dial made with blue Lapis Lazuli. It looks rich with a deep, cobalt hue that represents the blue azure of the sky during early dawn, dotted with silicate inclusions that sparkle against the background. Lapis lazuli is a blue metamorphic rock that has been used as a gemstone, sculpting material, pigment, and ornamental material for thousands of years. High-quality lapis lazuli can be a costly gem, and the most desirable specimens have a rich, solid blue colour and perhaps a few reflective pieces of gold pyrite. Unlike most other semi-precious stones, lapis lazuli is not a mineral, and is a rock composed of multiple minerals. The blue colour comes from the presence of lazurite—a blue silicate mineral of the sodalite group. Palatial Classic Malachite is a burst of energy on the wrist with its verdant hue. Malachite was a popular stone back in the 1960s, but here, it has been used in a more contemporary manner. Malachite is a green copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. It was one of the first ores used to produce copper metal, has an opaque transparency, and sometimes has a patterned surface. Malachite is a rich shade of green and it’s used for channeling positivity, progress, transformation, and prosperity. It has been used as a gemstone and sculptural material for thousands of years and is still popular. Today, it is most often cut into cabochons or beads for use in jewellery. The colour doesn’t fade over time, even when it’s exposed to light and that’s why it’s also popular with watchmakers. Just like this piece, which gives the vibe of a vintage watch albeit with a modern design. With a big date window at 12 o'clock and a power reserve indicator at 6 o'clock, Caliber JCAM52 is a finely executed movement, selected for its reliability. It offers a classic combination of complications, aiming to be both symmetrical and effectively useful on a daily basis. The brand chose to develop it as a hand-wound caliber to save a few precious millimeters in thickness, by doing away with the rotor. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph i.e. 4 Hz with the help of 173 components, and harnesses a power reserve of 48 hours. Much like the distinct dials, each of the strap and bracelet options also lends every watch a unique appearance. The one thing they all have in common is that they’re here to make a statement. For Jacob & Co. founder Jacob Arabo, these beautiful mineral dials must be an easy assertion. After all, he is as accomplished with stones as he is with watches.
