{NAME}, Earlier today, with a heavy heart, I announced that I am withdrawing from the race for U.S. Congress in Western North Carolina. Last week, my family experienced a life-changing medical crisis. If you’ve met me, you’ve likely heard me say that my mom is the strongest person I know. She’s always been there through my and Sam’s darkest days. The next few months will be critical for her care, so now it’s my chance to be strong for her. I got into this race because I saw an overwhelming absence of leadership in our community. I’m truly grateful for the wisdom, guidance, and encouragement I’ve received this past year from Democrats and Republicans alike eager for a return to accountable, responsive leadership in Western North Carolina. It will take unprecedented focus, cooperation, and organizing to reignite the competitive political resolve of a long-gerrymandered, formerly Democratic-leaning district. Still, I have faith that we can do it. The stakes are too high to fail. I look forward to supporting whichever well-qualified Democrat the voters nominate in the primary. I'll be working my way through along list of calls in the coming days and weeks, but in the meantime please know how grateful I am to every supporter for believing in this campaign, and every dissenter who introduced me to new ways of thinking about the issues. Our work here in these mountains will continue! Not many things could have pulled me away from this mission, but family must always come first and a win in this district will require no less than 110%. My family and I will keep fighting, organizing, and showing up wherever and whenever we can to give this district the bright future it deserves. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
