On Thursday, I shared a major announcement: Creative Elements has joined the HubSpot Podcast Network! And I want to share some behind-the-scenes...  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ [Creator Science]( Presented by [Volley]( Hello my friend! On Thursday, I shared a [major announcement](): Creative Elements has joined the HubSpot Podcast Network! This is an incredibly exciting next step for the show. The team at HubSpot is working to build the #1 podcast network in business and I'm pumped to join their [growing roster of shows](=), including: - My First Million with Sam Parr and Shaan Puri - Goal Digger with Jenna Kutcher - Being Boss with Emily Thompson - Entrepreneurs on Fire with John Lee Dumas - Online Marketing Made Easy with Amy Porterfield - Business Made Simple with Donald Miller - Creators are Brands with Tom Boyd I've gotten a lot of questions from other creators and podcasters this week, which basically fell into two categories: - Why did you join the network? - How did you make this happen? So, briefly, let me speak to both questions... Why did I join HubSpot? There are a LOT of podcast networks and they all have their own models and approach. Most networks are in the business of ad sales – more downloads = more impressions to sell to advertisers = more revenue. HubSpot has a different model. HubSpot, as a publicly traded software company, is more interested in growing HubSpot brand recognition and getting their products in front of new customers. They could go and buy advertising spots on major podcasts and pay market CPM rates (like most companies) or they could get creative... And HubSpot has always been interested in media and content. A big part of their success was the HubSpot blog, which brought a lot of people into their world (people who eventually became customers). [HubSpot also bought The Hustle in 2021](, which gave them a high-quality digital property with a TON of reach. There aren't a lot of software companies that are investing so strongly in media and content (and having success doing it). By building a podcast network, they create an asset that's valuable to all of the shows in the network and they have an asset that gets into a ton of peoples' ears every week. As part of the network, Creative Elements will introduce our listeners to other shows on the network, and other network shows will introduce their listeners to Creative Elements. This is what I'm most excited about – because there's already so much crossover between Creative Elements listeners and other shows on the network: There's a preexisting Venn Diagram between Creative Elements and all of these HubSpot shows, and our goal is to grow that center section of a Venn Diagram. And the more people listen to Creative Elements, the more people will learn about HubSpot. It aligns our incentives nicely, which is important to me. How did I make this happen? This happened pretty organically. Twice this year, I spoke at events (CEX and Podcast Movement) where HubSpot was a sponsor promoting their [Creator Program](). I met the HubSpot Creators team, really liked their vibe, and they encouraged me to apply for the Creator Program. Fast forward several months, and I was invited to interview with their team and explore whether this was a mutual fit. After several conversations, we determined that Creative Elements was a great fit within their roster and I was excited about the prospect of growth. Nothing too crazy! I'm sure there was some benefit to actually meeting their team in person at these events before they saw my name on an application, but it's impossible to know. In general, this year has been a good reminder of how powerful events and in-person networking can be. What happens next? From here, nothing changes for listeners. There won't be more ads in the show – but you'll be hearing more about HubSpot and other shows on the network. This should result in growing the show's profile, which will allow me to further invest in the show, bring on even more incredible guests, and make a better product for you! I cannot overstate how important your support as a listener of the show is to making this opportunity happen. HubSpot is a business, and it's the success of the show that made this interesting to THEM. So thank you, thank you, thank you. Other questions? Just hit reply and I'll answer what I can. [Sponsor Image]( PRESENTED BY VOLLEY You’re invited to a sneak peek. And I'm not alone on that hill – it's actually pretty crowded. But I know starting an email newsletter can be hard and discouraging – if not downright painful. As I shared in a recent article on [lessons I've learned](=) in writing my own email newsletter, subscriber growth and engagement will often go through periods of decline if you don't take time to focus on improving them – great content isn't always enough. This came up inside The Lab during one of our Hot Seats (1:1 coaching conversations with members) and so I thought I'd expand on it here. If we're putting effort into email at all, of course, we want to see that effort rewarded with growth...but what drives growth in email? As I'm in the midst of my most "successful" year ever for the business, I find myself spending some days totally overwhelmed and working A LOT. But, from the beginning, I set out on this path with the intention of building a business that allows me to enjoy my DAYS. Not so that I can hit arbitrary revenue milestones, but so that I don't dread getting out of bed. Days that make me look at my calendar with excitement. And, right now, that's not always true! So what is success? Maybe I'm optimizing for the wrong measures of success. Maybe you are too. I'd encourage you to look at how you're spending your time right now and whether you're trending in a more positive or more negative direction. If you're going the wrong way, it might be time to correct course.
