free editing course [View in browser](=.1u44tVuRrzykzUp7TbmPKRK9ZxlNmRABWgXzSEBTUpY) Just in case you missed my [free self-editing course](=.k4KrPX6RcsvUucivqeGndunFf5Y-MN-vz3YmTaqe_9A) (which is still available btw), I wanted to share an updated collection of all my best writing tips in one place because I know my resources can be hard to find. Why it matters? Because, no matter how much you pay an editor, they won't be able to make the big, heavy revisions and structural changes your book probably needs... which is why I've spent more than a decade trying to figure out exactly how to craft a compelling book that works and take your rough manuscript to polished bestseller. This has been my job for years, though at the moment I'm completely focused on finishing the 5th book in my YA dark fantasy Greek mythology series (in the next 4 weeks, nervous nail biting). I wish it was easier to do the heavy lifting, but at least you won't be left feeling lost or spinning your wheels, destroyed under the weight of the magnitude of effort it takes to revise a first-draft into a powerful book... I've laid out all the steps, all the writing weaknesses to avoid, and some very sound writing tactics that will help - but only if you take the time to learn them. CLICK HERE: [Self-edit Your Book (free guide)](=.A-1ijn-QXoksXjBDcYBTPyYjmx90gedZf73GLZQOy2w) In that blog post, I have a 1-hour video and then I've tried to organize and link to all the things I've mentioned that will make the BIGGEST impact on your writing, so you can learn quickly without wasting years trying to figure it all out. I've also linked to the current best AI tools for proofreading, because fixing typos and punctuation errors is one thing the robots are pretty good at. So you could, for example, pay $25 for proofreading and then spend your editing budget on high-level developmental critiques instead of banal and easy-to-fix mistakes. I'd love to talk more about AI tools but it's literally a [Pandora's box](=.i-aszeP6U3gKMUXncmrlX4EGB0MrC9Ndzd2oTJMTZRc) (in that Pandora was a sentient AI sent by Zeus to punish humans for stealing tech)... As a literary scholar, I'm fascinated by the fact that we are living out the dystopian predictions of history's most insightful authors; how even [Descartes couldn't imagine](=.uGPRdJZrgtH__Q3zqAQ6_F9WfTBh0nPlJDCoWBDMuVM) a day when robots could attempt human language. While I'm wary of the dramatic changes that are happening far too quickly, I also think it's important to stay informed and understand what's going on, so next week I've been asked to speak at an online summit I'll tell you more about later. If you'd like to get updates on that event though, there's a free guide you can sign up for here - [the AI writing blueprint](=.hbF7SlnfcIurktu63hBgT8HKLZAz7qTRzxSCVfJP5C0). Stay Creative! Derek Murphy @creativindie Ps. Writing has always been hard, and I try to find ways to make it easier... so I hope the free resources and stuff help. I'm aware I barely qualify as a functional adult and my content is a juggling contest of spinning plates and creative insights, but if you can get past the mess there are some real gems to discover - everyone will have their own process but you need to kiss a lot of frogs to find the perfect combination of tech, tools and talent to establish a writing process that works for you. =.ODL637r3nPjuW-sfG_Ny7qt2tbX9O-xmVbRVjyJtkuc [Share to Facebook](=.JYuB7mNnQ550aoPl1SXeA55RX8OD0F8GLHFwqBTGVKE) =.c71n-i_lcW6tQNWaKEvvteWqlApaqrcQCQrZCtjj1pw [Share to Twitter](=.XslxGY5rRygGrdq2ACdgrGYBjO4HRQJUHyZvAFxBcjA) =.kzPt6UUkEAXVNzBJIxOtpKTmmeTlzlcdOrTFHIsSb_Y [Forward email](=.5yawYZ6kjYoJIf807NXncLIh9UByINpvU1mnaANWLbg) Do not want to see it again? Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
