In my last email I introduced the idea of tightening up your copy. It's just editing really. But editing can be tough when you're still in love with your copy. Here are some more simple tips you can use to quickly and easily cut the fat (without breaking your writer-heart). #2 Simplify. Simplify. Simplify. It’s tempting to think that more words equals more expertise, or that longer words mean a more trustworthy voice. Complexity is not a sign of intelligence. Look for phrases, jargon and other language that can be simplified: - Due to the fact that… Because - Endeavour... Try - Assist... Help - Ensure... Make sure - Please don’t hesitate to call... Please call us - Enquire... Ask - Commence... Start or begin - In error... By mistake - In regards to... About You're not only cutting the word count. You're making your messages easier to understand. #3 Keep your paragraphs short. Long paragraphs encourage readers to skip right over them. Keep paragraphs short and to the point. They’ll be easier on the eye so easier to read. As you break up long paragraphs, ask yourself.... do I need all these extra paragraphs? What point am I making that needs all this copy? When you can remove entire paragraphs at a time, your copy will be rippling and beach-ready in no time. It’s important to be ruthless during your editing phase. Ask yourself: Can I make my point without this word? And this one? And that one too? I bet you can. Good luck! [You can read all the tips in one post here](). Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
