I hate SMART goals... I do this instead.  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ I can't believe you just admitted that. With a Brady Bunch GIF. . . That was what the wall of faces told me at this week's goal setting session with my Confident Copywriting Implementers. They are the small crew within my coaching group who are ready to accelerate their business with co-working sessions, accountability and the mindset support you need to break out of your old mold. A few Implementers admitted that they didn't actually have a clear idea of what they should be doing in the co-working sessions. Cue... slide deck creation! I started the workshop talking about SMART goals. You know the ones: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, timely ones. Then, I admitted that I never actually set SMART goals. I understand the idea and I can see how useful is it but more often than not my goals are more like vague directions I want to head in. We often look at people on the interwebs and think, they look like they have it all worked out. Then, we berate ourselves for not having our sh*t together. But the truth is that while having SMART goals is great, having a general direction is enough to get going. We can figure stuff out as we go and sometimes, we only see the dots connected when we look back. So if you struggle with a vision, a plan, a goal, you're not alone. The advice I gave to the Implementers is to start small. Like, mapping out your ideal DAY. You might not be able to have that day right now but start think about what success looks like for you. And not just your income either. I'm talking about: - Health and fitness - Family and relationships - Fun and recreation - Home and environment - Career and business If you think about your happy place in each category, you will (hopefully) see some activities you can do now and start crafting your ideal day, today! For many of these areas, I will need more time and less stress to make them happen. And I can build systems and processes to give me those. Suddenly, a loft someday has some more tangible tasks. And that gives me something to focus on this month. Whether you have clear, SMART goals... or a vague (hand flapping) direction to go in, make a start. A small step forward is better than no steps at all. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
