A letter from the field by Tyler RiewerA letter from the field by Tyler Riewer Hi {NAME}, My name is Tyler Riewer and I’m the Creative Director here at charity: water. I just wanted to share a quick update from our trip to Nepal. It has been an absolute rollercoaster over here. On top of days of travel to get to the Karnali Province, this part of the country has been experiencing significant, out-of-season, heavy rain. Massive storms have led to landslides all throughout the mountainous region where we’re currently staying. This has changed our route and itinerary more than once (and made for some extra harrowing drives). But we’ve spent the past few days in a community that’s getting access to clean water next year, and I’m thrilled to say the impact is going to be dramatic. The available water sources here are hundreds of feet below the community. So right now, women and girls are descending the equivalent of 3-5 football fields with a traditional water vessel (called a gagri) and maybe a baby on their back— and then climbing back up with the additional weight of the water. In the dry season (when they have to wait in line at the source) a few trips for water will cost you 6+ hours every day. That’s to say nothing of the climb itself. Dense brush. Narrow, slippery paths. Rocky footing that you can’t take your focus off of. Snakes. There’s just no question that clean water will change everything here, especially with access at a household level. Every woman and girl we’ve talked to has known exactly how she’ll use that extra time. For multitasking at home. For pursuing a job in government. For getting a PhD. It’s been powerful. Tomorrow we head out (roads willing) to our next community. One that got clean water last year— thanks to our brand partner, Aveda. It will be fun to hear about the change from their perspective. I hope to update you again soon! (If we haven’t been washed away by then.) In the meantime, I hope you know just how transformative your support is for the people here. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
