and around the world [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( *Content warning: This email contains references to child abuse and sexual violence. [URGENT: EMERGENCY IN SUDAN]( {NAME}, we’ve been documenting the horrific human rights violations taking place right now in the Darfur region of Sudan, with impacts that are reminiscent of the atrocities we’ll never forget were committed there twenty years ago. Our latest reporting has found that civilians are being deliberately targeted and killed, and women and girls have been raped and sexually abused by members of the parties to the conflict.1Lives are at stake — this is an emergency request for help. Women and girls are experiencing unimaginable horror and the world isn't paying enough attention — but we are. We rely on compassionate people like you to ensure that we can continue to shine a light on abuses like this. [Your emergency gift today will be DOUBLED by a generous donor to help expose and stop the atrocities women and girls are facing in Sudan and in other countries around the world »]( [LIMITED-TIME 2X MATCH: Stop attacks on women and girls [Button: Double your impact]]( In one case reported to Amnesty, a group of 24 women and girls were abducted and held in conditions amounting to sexual slavery for multiple days. One 25-year old woman told us she’s terrified she may be pregnant after being raped. There is nowhere for these women and girls to turn right now. Nowhere is safe. With member support, we’ve been able to: - Conduct months of research on the crisis in Sudan, including interviews with refugees and those directly affected by the violence; - Provide direct assistance to human rights defenders who are seeking to flee threats and attacks in Sudan, through our Global Relief Program; - Elevate the voices and harrowing stories of survivors in and around Sudan; and - Build a case for international action through the documentation of violations of humanitarian law, including attacks on civilians, and other war crimes. [Send an emergency donation that will go 2X as far to defend women and girls in Sudan and other countries around the world where their lives and rights are under threat.]( It is extremely difficult for women and girls to find safety amidst the fighting. People have been killed inside their homes, and shot at while fleeing for safety. Treatment and support for survivors of sexual violence is nearly impossible to obtain, as conflict has dismantled support services. Residents have told Amnesty that they fear for what will happen if they leave home — a sentiment we’ve also heard from too many women and girls trapped by violence and abuses around the world, including in Afghanistan and Iran. There is an increased need for immediate humanitarian support, and for neighboring countries to open their borders to civilians seeking safety. Amnesty is calling for an extended arms embargo, because the flow of deadly weapons into Sudan is one of the main things perpetuating this emergency. Without urgent action, these attacks on women and girls will get worse. [Send an emergency gift today to provide DOUBLE the support to demand action and show the world that we refuse to abandon women and girls when they are in desperate need of help »]( [Donate today]( Time is of the essence — thank you, Kate Hixon Advocacy Director for Africa Amnesty International USA [1] [( [DONATE NOW]( © 2023 Amnesty International USA 311 W 43rd Street, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10036 | 1-800-AMNESTY Please don't reply to this email.
