Make a gift that delivers action and relief [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( Conditions at the border are worsening — [help protect human rights]( [Photos of asylum seekers at the border]( {NAME}, Ever since I visited the U.S.-Mexico border last month, I’ve been thinking about the brave people we met and the shockingly inhumane conditions they’re facing. I remember the mom who was fleeing persecution in Honduras with her two little children… only to be denied the chance to seek safety in the U.S. I think about the dad and his young son with diabetes, who struggled to access medication and healthy food while being stranded in a crowded encampment. And I worry about the Haitian family I spoke with who remained separated after their kids could not get an appointment on the “CBP One” app, an inaccessible and mandatory measure for U.S. entry which Amnesty’s research has identified as a violation of international human rights law.1 Right now, children, families, and people are suffering as an asylum ban makes it nearly impossible to seek safety at the border. [Renew your membership today with an emergency gift to expose the deplorable conditions at the border, restore the right to seek asylum, and welcome people with dignity and respect.]( {NAME}, you and I both know that it’s on us to act when our leaders turn their backs on human rights. As an Amnesty supporter, you’ve helped us end family detention, free asylum-seekers from ICE detention, and urge lawmakers to make change. [With human rights conditions at the border deteriorating amidst the new asylum ban and thousands of lives in limbo, your financial support is needed to ensure that our work continues.]( [Lives are at risk at the border - and you can help.]( Protecting the right to seek asylum and the thousands of people at the border is an urgent priority for us. [With more resources, we can fund grassroots advocacy, press lawmakers to challenge harmful policies, and save lives. Please give now »]( It’s not just that people are being denied their right to seek asylum — they are being left stranded in dangerous and deplorable situations. I can’t erase the images of people in makeshift tents and on the banks of ravines filled with trash and raw sewage. These families are fleeing persecution and violence for a better life, and they’re too often being met with even greater cruelty and inhumanity. This is the real crisis and we must respond. The longer that migrants are forced to wait for an asylum appointment, the more they risk being attacked and exploited by cartels and gangs.2 Time is of the essence, and we have what it takes to make a difference. [Give now to bring truth to light, demand action to protect the right to seek asylum, and deliver hope to people who desperately need it right now.]( Thank you, Paul O’Brien Executive Director Amnesty International USA [1] [( [2] [( [DONATE NOW]( © 2023 Amnesty International USA 311 W 43rd Street, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10036 | 1-800-AMNESTY Please don't reply to this email.
