Act now to urge Congress to take action [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( [500 Signatures Needed to HELP Protect Trans Rights: Act Now »]( Hi {NAME}, Trans and nonbinary people in the United States are being punished for their identity. They’re being attacked. They’re being dehumanized. And their lives are in danger. In the first six weeks of this year, state legislatures introduced more than 300 anti-LGBTQI+ bills — most targeting transgender youth. State lawmakers have already introduced more bills attacking LGBTQI+ rights this year than in all of 2022. [We must defend their lives by calling on Congress to take urgent action to pass the Transgender Bill of Rights resolution to protect and codify the rights of trans and nonbinary people.]( This wave of cruel and unjust legislation is threatening every aspect of life for LGBTQI+ people. Proposed bills would prohibit health care for transgender youth and young adults, restrict single sex facilities, exclude trans youth for athletics, ban LGBTQI+ curriculum, and otherwise endanger and harm trans and nonbinary people. These bills are getting more extreme with every iteration, and they are inspiring violent threats and attacks against transgender people. The attacks are heartbreaking, and we must act before more trans rights are threatened and lives are taken. [Urge your Senators and Representative to cosponsor the Transgender Bill of Rights resolution, which clearly recognizes trans rights and builds a framework to protect trans rights »]( This resolution was introduced today, and is a strong statement of support for trans rights, outlining ways to protect the civil rights of trans people, recognize their right to healthcare, ensure equal access to services and public accommodations for trans and nonbinary people, and promote their safety. [In honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility, will you be among the 500 people we need to protect trans lives by advancing the Transgender Bill of Rights?]( [500 signatures needed: Add your name to protect trans rights]( The current wave of anti-trans legislation in the United States is terrifying. In Florida, a bill has been introduced that would not only codify the act of affirming trans children as child abuse but would also remove trans kids from supportive parents and place them under the custody of the state.1 In Oklahoma, a bill that’s already passed the state House would restrict access to gender-affirming spaces, including shelters, locker rooms, and restrooms.2 [Across the country, trans rights are under siege, and it’s time to end the attacks.]( The Transgender Bill of Rights offers a clear path forward that will elevate the protection of transgender and nonbinary people and prevent harmful bills like these from taking effect. This would be a huge step to supporting trans rights in the United States and show momentum for protecting the rights of trans people in our communities and around the world. It takes just a few minutes to add your name and be one of the 500 people needed to help move this resolution forward. Today, in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility, [take action to ensure that the U.S. protects trans rights »]( Thank you for bringing us closer to a world that sees trans people for who they are and protects their rights. Your action today makes a real difference. Sincerely, Tarah Demant
