Your gift doubled to help free prisoners of conscience [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( [Your Gift Doubled to protect human rights. Give now.]( {NAME}, As I write this, people are being imprisoned, tortured, or even killed by their own governments, just for who they are or what they believe. They and their families are counting on Amnesty — on you and me and everyone else reading this email — for their freedom and for justice. I know this all too well because I myself was unjustly imprisoned in retaliation for my human rights work — until Amnesty International and the support of its donors secured my freedom. Thank you. I’ve personally felt the power of this community. [Together, I know we can protect so many more individuals at risk.]( Right now, I’m thinking about the protesters in Iran who are risking their lives to speak out against a repressive government. Hundreds of people have been killed in the streets and others executed publicly or sentenced to death in closed-door, sham trials that use forced confessions. We must fight alongside these brave protesters. If we turn away, Iranian authorities will continue to act with impunity. Amnesty is working overtime to build evidence and pressure to put a stop to these horrific incidents — and it's working. Because of our advocacy, the UN Human Rights Council recently voted to establish a fact-finding mission to investigate human rights violations in Iran, especially with respect to women and children. {NAME}, we must keep at it. [What we raise today from this email will be DOUBLED to fund twice as much of this critical work.]( [2X Your Impact for Human Rights]( There are thousands of people every year who are imprisoned or beaten or killed for exercising their human rights. I’d say I’m one of the lucky ones except that it wasn’t luck. It was Amnesty. It was people like you who gave me hope when I was locked up and who secured my freedom. Governments and corporations think that they have all the power. They think that with all of their money and connections, they can hide their violations of our human rights. Well, together we can show them how wrong they are. Whether it’s the Taliban in Afghanistan, the parliament of Iran, or corporations like Chevron that I fought in Ecuador, [this matching gift offer puts Amnesty in an even stronger position to fight against repression and violence. Please, make a tax-deductible gift to Amnesty today.]( The whole Amnesty community had my back and won my freedom, and I will never stop working to free others. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. For all you did for me, and for all we will continue to do together.
