Today only: claim this match if you give before midnight [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( [Human Rights Day: 5X Match]( Dear {NAME}, Today is Human Rights Day, and I can’t stop thinking of my family in Ukraine. I grew up in the Ukrainian-American community in New Jersey. I have relatives in Lviv and Ternopil in western Ukraine; in Kyiv (the capital); and in Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, though many have been displaced by the cruel attacks by Russian forces. Even while this war endangers and kills so many, I’m proud of Amnesty’s efforts to investigate and document war crimes — this work is life-saving. Today, for Human Rights Day, we’ve set a special goal: raising $100,000 to support investigations, advocacy, and relief work. [All gifts will be matched 5X — but you’ve got to give before midnight. A donation of $10 during this special matching period can make a big difference.]( [Man holding child amidst rubble]( [5X Match]( Since the war began, Amnesty has sent its Crisis Response Team to investigate on the front lines. Our crisis investigators have interviewed hundreds of witnesses. They’ve coordinated a worldwide digital verification and research team. This research has documented war crimes that could have otherwise gone unreported. Amnesty’s Global Relief Fund has distributed aid to more than 3,000 Ukrainians: defenders of human rights, journalists, and others at high risk. As the Chair of the Board at Amnesty International USA, I know that we couldn’t do any of this investigation, advocacy, and relief without our movement — without you. [Donate as little as $10 to help us hit $100,000 on Human Rights Day, and see your impact go 5X as far.]( All of my grandparents left Ukraine during World War II. My father’s parents fled after being targeted by Nazi forces because of my grandfather’s work to protect Jewish communities, among other activities. When I look at my ancestors and my living family, I see resilience. I see sacrifice and hardship endured — because of a belief that if we work hard, and stick together, we can build a better world for ourselves and for everyone. That’s the spirit that makes me an eternal optimist, even while people in Ukraine are facing such oppression and violence. It’s also what connects me with Amnesty and our global movement. I know that we can — we must — open our eyes to suffering across the world, and work to stop it. We have already made great strides but we can’t give up, especially now as we head into cold winter temperatures. Thank you for being part of this movement alongside me. [I hope you’ll join us on this special day with a donation of $10 or more.]( Alexandra Durbak Chair, Board of Directors Amnesty International USA [Donate Now]( © 2022 Amnesty International USA 311 W 43rd Street, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10036 | 1-800-AMNESTY Please don't reply to this email.
