Life in Paraguay as an LGBTI person is hard — and activism can be dangerous. [View in Browser]( [TRANS PEOPLE LIKE US DEMAND EQUAL RIGHTS»]( [Soy Real Mi Nombre Debe Ser Legal. English: I am real. My name must be legal.]( Yren, Mariana and others holding signs that read, "I am real. My name must be legal." {NAME}, let us introduce ourselves: we’re Yren and Mariana. We’re trans women and activists, writing to you from Paraguay. For years, we have been fighting discrimination and pushing for LGBTI rights here. As trans people in Paraguay, we cannot legally change our names or obtain identity documents that match our gender identity. This makes it challenging to get a job, education, or access medical services. This year, we’re participating in Amnesty’s Write for Rights campaign — and we’re asking for your help. [Click to add your name: tell the Supreme Court in Paraguay to legally recognize trans people’s identity, so we can exercise our rights!]( [Add your name]( Life in Paraguay as an LGBTI person is hard — and activism can be dangerous. We’ve been bullied, physically attacked, and prevented from speaking out about the issues we face. LGBTI demonstrations in Paraguay are often banned by the authorities. Sometimes, they have even been targeted with violence. We are not a danger to anyone. We are in danger. Today, we have become activists, fighting to be visible and to obtain legal documents that match our true identity. We’re asking the state to acknowledge us as trans women, and to stop imposing an identity that is not ours. This would be a huge step in our historic struggle for equality. [Please, join our campaign to protect trans people by sending your letter to the Supreme Court in Paraguay.]( We just want to live our lives freely, without fear, and enjoy our rights. Together, we are stronger than ever — and we’re not going to step back until ALL our rights are recognized. Thank you for taking action with us today.
