People around the world are being disappeared. We need your help » [View in Browser]( [Amnesty International candle logo]( [Stop enforced disappearances »]( {NAME}, One day, she vanished. No one has heard from her since. Ciham Ali was only 15 years old when security forces detained her as she tried to leave Eritrea. It is believed her enforced disappearance was in retaliation for her father's rumored support of a coup against the government. No one knows where Ciham is today. If she is alive, she may be in one of Eritrea's notorious prisons where people often die from torture, starvation, and other appalling treatment. This year, on the 10-year anniversary of the day she was disappeared, we'll be protesting outside Eritrean embassies. Right now, Amnesty International is campaigning on dozens of cases of enforced disappearances around the world. As we mark the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances on August 30, we remember the mothers and fathers, daughters and sons who have been grabbed off the street or from their homes, never to be heard from again — and we fight to get them justice. [In honor of those who have been disappeared, we set a goal for 30 people to make a donation before midnight tomorrow. Please, make a donation today in honor of those who are missing.]( [International Day of the Disappeared: Seek justice for those who are missing]( [Donate Today]( Most often, the targets of enforced disappearances are people who governments believe pose a threat to their power — people like human rights defenders, journalists, political opponents, key witnesses, survivors of human rights abuses, family members of those who have been disappeared, and lawyers. Not only has Amnesty reported extensively1 on these grave violations, we're also holding governments accountable to: - Commit to investigating enforced disappearances and prosecuting those suspected of responsibility in civilian courts [»]( - Make enforced disappearance, whether committed by state agents or armed non-state actors, criminal under national law and punishable by appropriate penalties which take into account its devastating impact [»]( - Make sure survivors and people who have lost their loved ones have access to effective remedies and receive adequate reparations — this includes restitution, compensation, rehabilitation, and a guarantee of non-repetition, that it won't ever happen again [»]( - And most importantly, governments must acknowledge the fate and whereabouts of all those who have been disappeared. The TRUTH must be known [»]( Your contribution will be put to work to help end enforced disappearances. [{NAME}, will you show solidarity with the disappeared and their families? Will you join me in letting them know they are not forgotten?]( Thank you for helping us mark this year's International Day of the Disappeared. Together, we will continue to uncover the truth and seek justice for all.
