This week, like many of you, Lauren and I watched Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s inauguration from the comfort of our home. And like you, I let out a huge sigh of relief the moment Joe and Kamala took their oaths to serve. I’m ready for this country to turn the page and start a new chapter in our history. I was especially blown away by Amanda Gorman and her perfect words for this moment. This one part really resonated with me as I look ahead: “And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it, somehow we do it, somehow we’ve weathered and witnessed a nation that isn’t broken but simply unfinished.” We are unfinished. The beauty of our democracy is that we, the people, have power to direct where we go. We hold this power in the leaders we elect, the causes we champion, and as simply as the food we buy or the stores we shop at. That collective power -- to change this country for the better -- is why I ventured into public service in the first place. It’s also why I know that we can’t let our sighs of relief lull us into disengaging or tempering our activism and advocacy. Trump may be gone, but our work is not. Amanda stated it best, “when day comes we ask ourselves, where can we find light in this never-ending shade?” We find the light within and with each other. Organizing side by side in communities nationwide for a better, kinder, equitable future. Investing in the local organizations and activists leading the way, that carry us on their shoulders, without the expectation of attention or accolades. So rest if you need. Take a beat. Take the time to revel in the sweetness of this moment. But then come back to work. If these four years showed us anything it's that no democracy is inevitable, no matter how old and deep it is. It requires our constant vigilance, protection, and care. We’re in this together, every single one of us. Joe Kennedy wants to use the platform he's built to support Democratic candidates, build a diverse and inclusive future for our Party, and help take our country back.
