emergency request to help Chelsea

I hope you all are having a good start to 2021. I was originally planning on writing to you today to simply thank you for all your support in 2020. I’m forever grateful to you and hope you know how much your trust means to me. However, this message took on another meaning when I was reading some local news yesterday… In case you haven’t seen, a critical food bank in Chelsea, Mass., run by the organization La Colaborativa, was forced to close its doors suddenly at Christmas, when federal funding was cut earlier than expected. Chelsea has been one of our hardest hit communities during the COVID pandemic. Many local residents are essential workers laboring to keep Massachusetts running for the rest of us. They rely on programs like this food bank to help feed their families. [Today, I’m urgently asking you to help this food bank continue to serve our Commonwealth families with a contribution. They have launched the Whatever it Takes campaign and need your help. Any amount will go a long way to helping our neighbors through this challenging time.]( Everything raised to the Whatever it Takes campaign will ensure they have the capacity and resources to do whatever it takes to help immigrant families get back on their feet during the pandemic. Some examples of the programs your contribution will support: - Daily food pantry distribution and delivery to an average of 8,000 community members weekly. Weekly diaper and baby supply distributions. - Distribution of PPE and cleaning supplies. - Anti-displacement services to keep families housed and healthy. - Direct financial assistance to impacted workers and families, including support with applications for private and public benefits (unemployment, rent relief, etc.) And these are just some examples... I’ve been a long-time advocate of La Colaborativa. I wish I could say I’m surprised that President Trump and his administration were leaving them high and dry, but I can’t. This follows a pattern we are seeing nationwide with the lack of adequate COVID relief and support for our hardest hit communities. [These local food banks are a lifeline and they need our help.
