On the Path... [View in Web Browser]( [Access your FREE 15-minute insight call]( Hi {NAME}, There’s a lot of talk about how fear is used to control the world, but on the micro level, it’s the fears inside of your own mind which are causing the frustration and stagnation in your life. When working with clients I hear a lot of similar things coming from people who should be crushing it at life, but feel stuck and in a loop of self-defeating thoughts and habits. When we get down to the root of things, I find there’s pretty much always one of these 3 fears holding them back. Tell me if you can relate. 1. The Fear of Failure Many people who want to excel at something totally new, or to push their lives in a new direction just cannot seem to get started or make continual progress toward the new goal. Why? Often it’s the fear of failure, which is paradoxical, because you’d think that someone who is afraid of failing would do their dead level best to make sure they succeed. What really happens is that the fear of failure is so deeply embedded that the subconscious mind works very hard to make sure you don’t even get the chance to fail... by making sure that you never even try. So you procrastinate, distract yourself, or avoid things altogether. To overcome this, take action. Everyday. Do something small, or big, toward the new goal until taking action becomes a habit. Action creates inspiration and momentum, and it boosts your confidence while also neutralizing anxiety. 2. The Fear of Criticism, Judgement and Abandonment This is a huge one for so many people I speak with, and it stops them dead in their tracks, every single day. In your mind a script plays out, telling you that if you fully express yourself, or if you do something which doesn’t jibe with how others currently perceive you, then you will be called out, judged and criticized for doing so, and thereby abandoned. And you probably will be, because people in today’s cult-ure don’t like it when another one of the sheep strives to leave the herd behind. Our deep, subconscious drive to fit into the majority group has been hacked and used against us by the social engineers, because it works. Just like the proverbial crabs in a bucket, we hold each other back by calling out anyone who dares to excel above and beyond the dysfunctional tribe. To overcome this, listen carefully to the self-limiting conversation going on in your head and identify who it is that is judging you or telling you not to change. It’s not you, so who is it? A relative, an old friend, or perhaps someone you look up to? Once you’ve identified the voice, have a conversation with them, in real life or in your own mind, and ask them what they really want for you. You’ll find that it’s absurd, even laughable to think that they don’t want what’s best for you, but if they don’t want you to succeed, then you know their opinion no longer matters. They just don’t want to miss out on the good times or drama that’s surely about to happen. Alcohol is a great example, and many people I speak with about this continue to drink even when they don’t want to and know that it's creating chaos and confusion in their life. They do so because of a fear of missing out on the good times they’ve been trained to believe are to be had when everyone is drunk. They just can’t imagine not being involved in what the other sheep are doing. Another example of this one is the fear of missing out on the perceived comfort of your current situation. For so many, the idea of excelling and being their best creates a fear of missing out on the freedom you gain by playing small and never being seen. This is, of course, a lie. To overcome this one, it’s important that you reconnect deeply to your own soul and your own purpose in life. If you don’t have absolute clarity on who you are and what you are seeking in this life, you’ll continue to look towards others for leadership when you don’t need it. You'll compare yourself against others, and you'll always be afraid to miss out on the perceived fun or success you think they're having. These come up so often that I thought I'd share. I hope you're having a stellar week, in spite of all the drama and chaos in our world. I work with these concepts and more in my one-on-one self mastery and self-sabotage coaching.
