Following in the footsteps of iconic Brooklynites like Shirley Chisholm and Major Owens, I’ve dedicated my life to serving Brooklyn, first on the New York City Council, and now in Congress. I’d love to have you as part of my team as we fight for our progressive values in Washington. If you don’t want to hear from us, please feel free to [unsubscribe](/Ah1FLEkbILJQGj4Ga1F5rWjV_qWV-5W-1Ia6zUaThd8=) at any time. /vYl3G9gL1uoASRXWqTIGiqHf0qD9he7wAZlrqtBss-I= {NAME}, My mother, former New York City Council Member Dr. Una S. T. Clarke, has been an inspiration to me my entire life. Growing up, she took my brother and me to every type of community meeting. At these meetings, I experienced firsthand the importance of government and community working together to give hard-working people a chance at a better life. Watching my mother work hard for our community, I understood the importance of advocating for our family, friends, and neighbors. This work inspired me to follow in my mother’s footsteps, first by representing Brooklyn in the New York City Council and eventually in Congress. It has been an honor to also follow in the footsteps of other trailblazing Brooklynites in Congress, like Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm and Congressman Major Owens, as I continue to fight to bring affordable housing and high-paying jobs to our community. But my fight hasn't stopped there. I have been a staunch advocate for affordable health care, accessible childcare, a 21st-century immigration system, and a woman’s right to choose. With Donald Trump in the White House and Republicans in control of the Senate, now more than ever we need to keep a Democratic majority in the House to stop Republicans from imposing their radical agendas on the American people. I’m not backing down, and with my colleagues, I will continue to fight for Brooklyn and our country. [Will you join me?
