Here’s a recap of some of the work we got up to this month! --------------------------------------------------------------- ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: - Making Strides on Campaign Funds for Childcare (CFCC) — In Michigan, Vote Mama alumni State Rep. Rachel Hood and State Sen. Stephanie Chang introduced CFCC bills to the state legislature, along with support from Vote Mama alumna MI Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson who [testified in favor of the bills.]( [Michigan Chronicle Headline, Jocelyn Benson]( - Fighting for Gender Equality — You might remember that Vote Mama alum Nebraska State Senator Machaela Cavanaugh made headlines last month when she led a filibuster on the senate floor in protest of a Republican bill that would ban gender-affirming, life-saving care to trans youth. In a devastating outcome, the GOP has succeeded in [passing the anti-trans bill.]( But the fight isn't over yet, and Sen. Cavanaugh has promised to continue filibustering. Vote Mama Lobby’s Creative Council Chair Busy Philipps teamed up with Machaela on social media for an Instagram Live event where she spoke from a parent’s perspective on why gender-affirming care matters so much and why she’s filibustering. [Watch the IG live here if you missed it! >>]( [Busy Philipps and Sen Cavanaugh IG Live]( - The Next Round of Mamas— Our pro-choice, Democratic mamas are making a difference across the country, and we’re beyond proud to have helped get them into office. We can’t wait to endorse more trailblazing moms so they can fight for our rights. If you know someone who would make a great leader like these alumni, our endorsement application is open until May 31st! [Click here for more information about our Endorsement Application! >>]( --------------------------------------------------------------- VOTE MAMA IN THE MEDIA: - Our fearless Vote Mama Founder and CEO, Liuba Grechen Shirley, was a guest on the Sirius XM Radio show Progress Parenting hosted by Sydney Beveridge for a [special Mother’s Day episode]( discussing the importance of moms in office, changing the culture of Congress, and more! - The launch of Vote Mama Foundation’s Politics in Parenthood Report this month earned a ton of positive public coverage, too — including a feature in [Ms. Magazine’s Mother’s Day Roundup]( and an exclusive in [The 19th!]( [19th News Headline, Parenthood Politics Report]( - The report even got the attention of some big names on social media, amplified on Twitter by Melinda Gates, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and [Representative Katie Porter]( — who is also a part of our Vote Mama Advisory Committee and was the first single mom with minor kids to ever serve in Congress! --------------------------------------------------------------- VOTE MAMA IRL: There are only 37 moms currently serving in Congress! The Vote Mama team was on the ground in Washington, D.C. this month to speak with 3 Congressmamas Rep. Grace Meng, Rep. Brittany Pettersen, and Rep. Hillary Scholten. These incredible Vote Mama alumni shared their real-life experiences including how their support of one another has provided a strong sense of community. We discussed how we’re working to change the system and why we need to elect more moms to level the playing field and achieve meaningful policy change! We've supported over 400 mamas already who are making big improvements once in office. But the fight is far from over, and moms are still grossly underrepresented. With new GOP threats to our rights at every turn, our work has never been more critical. And we can't do this important work without a solid grassroots team of supporters like you to keep our efforts funded.
