Stop browsing, start watching! The best TV shows and movies to watch on every screen sWUAmEDtN:m:1:2364960064:C5FCA4DDEA069010633FD07210C19DC8:r Hi!
Push! Push! Puuuuuuuuuuuuush! Congratulations! It’s another streaming service. Well, it’s an old streaming service, but it has a new name. Epix, an underrated cable network and streamer, is now MGM+ as of today. I’m not sure if there was a law passed that all new streaming services should be named after their parent company and garnished with a plus sign, but it sure seems like it. MGM+ will be home to some impressive originals, like Godfather of Harlem and Get Shorty, as well as films like Top Gun: Maverick and the James Bond films. There’s another $6 a month to add to the stack! Here’s what to watch this weekend. -Tim [Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!](sWUAmEDtN:m:1:2364960064:C5FCA4DDEA069010633FD07210C19DC8:r) sWUAmEDtN:m:1:2364960064:C5FCA4DDEA069010633FD07210C19DC8:r OUT NOW ON NETFLIX [Anyone for tennis?](sWUAmEDtN:m:1:2364960064:C5FCA4DDEA069010633FD07210C19DC8:r) It’s a big weekend for us tennis junkies, as Sunday (or as I call it, “Monday down undah”) marks the first major event of the pro tennis season, the Australian Open, airing on ESPN. But it’s also potentially a huge step forward for the sport as tennis is getting its first high-profile docuseries in Break Point (Netflix, out today), from the same team that elevated Formula 1 racing with Netflix’s Drive to Survive. The season will be split in two parts, with the first five episodes dropping today and covering the first half of last year’s season while following some of tennis’ brightest young stars, including American Taylor Fritz, Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, and combustible Aussie Nick Kyrgios, whose outbursts and flashy playstyle highlight the first episode (though his domestic abuse charge is not mentioned). It needs work at building the innate tension of tennis — in its defense, it’s hard to cut a three-hour battle into a few minutes of recap — but Break Point is excellent at capturing the mental strain and isolation of the (mostly) individual sport, which is unique to tennis. Overall, it’s better for tennis newbies in its early episodes, but as the season progresses, die-hards will appreciate the behind-the-scenes look at what goes on when these net gladiators are off the court. sWUAmEDtN:m:1:2364960064:C5FCA4DDEA069010633FD07210C19DC8:r OUT TODAY ON PEACOCK [Sick tests positive for COVID-era slasher horror](sWUAmEDtN:m:1:2364960064:C5FCA4DDEA069010633FD07210C19DC8:r) Scream’s Kevin “The Vampire Diaries” Williamson returns to the genre that paid for whatever mansion he lives in with Sick, a decent slasher film set during the early days of COVID. His hallmarks are all here: a mysterious masked figure armed with a sharp object, young people on the run making smarter-than-normal-horror-movie decisions, and a blend of paralyzing paranoia and kinetic thrills. Director John Hyams breathes life into the action with some impressive stabby acrobatics, and at a taut 83 minutes, it doesn’t drag on. That’s probably a good thing, because by the time the reveal hits, you’ll be ready for it to be over. What can I say? I like a movie that doesn’t overstay its welcome. sWUAmEDtN:m:1:2364960064:C5FCA4DDEA069010633FD07210C19DC8:r SERIES PREMIERE SUNDAY AT 9/8C ON HBO, HBO MAX [The Last of Us is the first of the good video game adaptations](sWUAmEDtN:m:1:2364960064:C5FCA4DDEA069010633FD07210C19DC8:r) It’s a video game adaptation. But wait! It’s a GOOD video game adaptation of one of the best-written video games even made. HBO’s The Last of Us, about a smuggler (Pedro Pascal) escorting a teen girl (Bella Ramsey) across a wasteland riddled with fungal-infected zombies, adapts the 2013 PlayStation 3 apocalyptic game mostly step-for-step, a smart choice given how beloved the story is. But [as Keith Phipps says in his review](sWUAmEDtN:m:1:2364960064:C5FCA4DDEA069010633FD07210C19DC8:r), the series may be at its best when it strays from the source material. I watched all nine episodes and was ready for nine more when I was done. It’s easily the best live-action video game adaptation for TV ever. sWUAmEDtN:m:1:2364960064:C5FCA4DDEA069010633FD07210C19DC8:r
