It should be illegal for Halloween to fall on a Monday or a day when it rains, and here in the Pacific Northwest we’re getting both. Now everyone’s handcrafted costumes that were made with care will be under North Face jackets and umbrellas, and the creeping anxiety of a school day in 12 hours will dampen the mood. Plus, all the adults are all Halloweened out from Adult Halloween on Saturday. If elected comptroller of the 34th district, it will be my mission to make Halloween a floating holiday to be held only on dry weekends. Yes we can! Here’s what to watch this week. -Tim [Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!](W_2Nq5hNN:m:1:2364960064:F2DC8CF15AC5D3F27F2107BC2FEF5571:r) W_2Nq5hNN:m:1:2364960064:F2DC8CF15AC5D3F27F2107BC2FEF5571:r TUESDAY ON HULU, WEDNESDAY ON NETFLIX [Scandals rock this week’s true crime offerings](W_2Nq5hNN:m:1:2364960064:F2DC8CF15AC5D3F27F2107BC2FEF5571:r) On Tuesday, Hulu releases God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty, a film about Jerry Falwell Jr.’s fall after word got out about his cuck fantasy, and on Wednesday, Netflix releases the three-part miniseries Killer Sally, which covers the murder of bobybuilder Ray McNeil by his bodybuilder wife, Sally. God Forbid features the poolboy at the center of the scandal spilling the beans on the Falwells’ secret life, so it should be a nice slice of schadenfreude. Killer Sally goes beyond the bulk and dives into custom female wrestler fetishes, but it really excels when it examines how victims of abuse are portrayed by the media. These are two true crime specials for those who like ‘em juicy. W_2Nq5hNN:m:1:2364960064:F2DC8CF15AC5D3F27F2107BC2FEF5571:r WEDNESDAY AT 8/7C ON PBS [Woodpeckers: The Hole Story is a headbanging good time](W_2Nq5hNN:m:1:2364960064:F2DC8CF15AC5D3F27F2107BC2FEF5571:r) Few things in nature are funnier than a woodpecker going to work, cocking his head back and smashing his face into a rigid tree trunk just to get a snack. One of my favorite TV shows, the venerable Nature, spends an hour on these feathered axes with fantastic footage of their carpentry and fun facts you never knew. Extra kudos go out to the sound designers, who amplify the percussive pecking with booming thuds and rat-a-tat-tats. With Animal Planet hardly about animals at all anymore and all the Planet Earth clones focusing on narratives, it’s nice to go back to the masters of the nature doc for some entertaining education. Next week: the American Ocelot! W_2Nq5hNN:m:1:2364960064:F2DC8CF15AC5D3F27F2107BC2FEF5571:r SEASON 1 OUT THURSDAY ON NETFLIX [Does Netflix recognize the irony of Blockbuster?](W_2Nq5hNN:m:1:2364960064:F2DC8CF15AC5D3F27F2107BC2FEF5571:r) Kids, settle in and let me tell you about a place called “Blockbuster.” It was a magical land where you could rent movies in these boxes called “VHS tapes.” There were thousands of these stores around the country before Netflix destroyed them all, but now, only one remains. And in one final mockery, Netflix is making a sitcom about the last Blockbuster standing. Ouch. Broadcast sitcom vets Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat) and Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) headline this very broadcast-y sitcom series that’s almost identical to something that would be on NBC (think Superstore). With the recent news that Netflix also acquired Peacock’s Girls5eva, I think we have a clear idea of their next comedy strategy: go for comfort.
