After a few days of [doomsday speculation](sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r) about the future of HBO Max — No more scripted TV! 70% layoffs! — the best streaming service available appears safe, for now. Heartless, monolithic parent company Time Warner Bros. Discovery CNN Turner Inc. or whatever it’s called held its earnings call yesterday and announced what we already knew: HBO Max and Discovery+ will merge down the line in 2023, so you can watch Omar Little wreak havoc on the streets of Baltimore in The Wire and then flip on over to watch the Johnsons get their kitchen surprise remodeled without leaving the app. CEO David Zaslav [is a numbers guy](sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r), and while quality art (i.e. HBO) is great at delivering beauty in the world and keeping us from sucking on a tailpipe, it isn’t always great for the bottom line. I worry for the future of HBO Max, and quality streaming shows in general, and I expect bad news to come in the future, but for now, all seasons of [Eagleheart](sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r) are streaming on HBO Max. Victory, however fleeting it may be. Here’s what to watch this weekend. -Tim [Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!](sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r) sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r OUT TODAY ON NETFLIX [The Sandman is a dreamy new fantasy series](sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r) The long-awaited The Sandman, an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novels, tells the story of Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), who breaks free from a century of human captivity and sets out to restore his place as the ruler of dreamworld. It's a fantasy-superhero epic that features Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, who is technically the same character as Tom Ellis' Lucifer Morningstar from Lucifer (the shows share source material), just a drastically different interpretation. [As Keith Phipps says in his review](sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r), it fades a bit in its second half but it also features one of the best episodes of TV you’ll see all year. -Liam Mathews sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r OUT TODAY ON HULU [Prey is the Predator prequel you didn’t know you needed](sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r) This Hulu original sci-fi film sounds like it was conceived at 4:20 in a dorm room at the University of Vermont: What if the Predator from the Predator films came to Earth before the first movie and fought against some Comanche Native Americans in the 1700s? The unique setting actually works, giving a fresh coat of paint and a specific perspective to a sci-fi franchise in need of both. As Jordan Hoffman [says in his review](sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r), it may not completely break ground, but it’s an entertaining film and the Predator gets to have its fun. sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r OUT TODAY ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO [Licorice Pizza is a delicious slice of nostalgia](sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r) One of 2021's most cherished films is Paul Thomas Anderson's teen romance, which was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Set in 1973 in Southern California's San Fernando Valley, it follows a 15-year-old actor (Cooper Hoffman) and his budding relationship with an early-20s photographer's assistant (Alana Haim). sEcf2EhNc:m:1:2364960064:1CA3FCA160FA44CB5CBE0F655EE8F23E:r
