The Olympics drought is over, and TV is back in action big time this week. So let’s shout out the shows airing this week that didn’t get mentioned in our picks below. Season 3 of HBO’s My Brilliant Friend, a coming-of-age drama from Italy (Monday, HBO); AMC’s spooky crime drama Ragdoll, a U.K.-set serial killer drama that makes its regular cable debut (Monday, AMC); The Larry David Story, a documentary about the Curb Your Enthusiasm star (Tuesday, HBO); Against the Ice, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s new snowy adventure movie (Wednesday, Netflix); Gaming Wall Street, a two-part docuseries about the GameStop stock debacle (Thursday, HBO Max); Joe vs. Carole, Peacock’s scripted series about Tiger King stars Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin (Thursday, Peacock); and Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard, adding to the franchise’s ever-expanding universe (Thursday, Paramount+). That’s a lot! And while they might not all be good, they’re all definitely more options to make deciding what to watch that much harder. I’m still trying to catch up on shows from last year, sheesh. Here are some suggestions (and warnings) for what to watch this week. -Tim [Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!](suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r) suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r SEASON 5 PREMIERE MONDAY AT 10/9C ON FX [Better Things is a better thing than most other things](suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r) One of TV's best (and most underrated) comedies is back for its final season, and it's approaching this last chapter with its signature blend of sharpness and empathy. These episodes find Sam (Pamela Adlon) continuing to clash with her daughters and mother, and dealing with the future by examining the past, digging into her family history as well as the roads she's taken in her career to get her where she is. I look forward to a season of tears and an emotionally satisfying conclusion, as Better Things is always wont to give us. -Allison Picurro suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r SERIES PREMIERE THURSDAY ON HULU [The Dropout dramatizes the Theranos-Elizabeth Holmes scam](suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r) Amanda Seyfried dons so very many black turtlenecks to play disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in this limited series about the rise and fall of the infamous startup that was never really much of anything. It takes us back to the beginning, when Holmes was an idealistic Stanford dropout who entered the tech world with the bold idea of trying to disrupt the blood testing industry by inventing a machine that could get accurate tests from incredibly small amounts of blood, and managed to rope some very rich people into her plan. And, well, we all know how that worked out! The show has the unenviable task of trying to dramatize an already incredibly bizarre scandal, and it never really gets as weird as it should, but at the end of the day, this is a story that has to be seen to be believed. Just know Seyfried never quite reaches the confounding depths of the real Holmes' infamous baritone voice. The first three episodes will premiere on Hulu at once, with future episodes being released weekly. -Allison Picurro suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r SERIES PREMIERE THURSDAY ON HBO MAX [Our Flag Means Death is arrrr-right](suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r) Taika Waititi’s latest is a pirate comedy about an aristocrat (Rhys Darby) who abandons his family for life on the high seas, but don’t expect the new HBO Max comedy Our Flag Means Death to be for pirates what Waititi’s What We Do in the Shadows was for vampires. The unique setting is good for some goofy gags, but, [as I say in my review](suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r), Our Flag is missing a distinct voice and has more characters than it knows what to do with in its early episodes, making it a tad disappointing for the high bar we expect from Waititi and HBO Max. But things pick up toward the middle of the 10-episode season, which might be a sign of a turnaround. Darby is impossible not to love, and the island setting and silly comedy serve as a necessary escape to everything else in the world. suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r

He can't remember his own name, let alone what happened to him or how he ended up where he is. As he tries to piece together his identity, he's pursued by mysterious, dangerous people from his past, and it's a race against time to see whether they'll catch up to him before his memory returns. It's a super engaging thriller that was [met with great reviews](suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r) when it first premiered on the BBC earlier this year. -Allison Picurro suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r HAPPY TRAILS [More shows like 1883](suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r) Paramount+’s hit Yellowstone spin-off [rode off into the sunset over the weekend](suc0znHNz:m:1:2364960064:5CE48582E6847760DC5348C63C594712:r), leaving a gaping hole in our lives as both 1883 and Yellowstone are off the air for who knows how long.
