Not all of it has been good; in addition to the general state of the world, breakout star Jerry Harris was hit with child pornography charges. All of that is addressed in Season 2, which makes one ingenious change to the formula of Season 1: this season also follows Navarro’s Texas neighbors and bitter rivals, Trinity Valley, igniting a fire under everyone involved as the pressure to win nationals increases. Watching the first half of Season 2, I forgot how great this show is, and once again, creator Greg Whiteley — the mind behind Last Chance U and last year’s incredible Last Chance U: Basketball — found a new direction that improves on the original. sPNr2KH_N:m:1:2364960064:0CD4E0BE2E68BAC60FA1E2910D2066DF:r SERIES PREMIERE THURSDAY ON HBO MAX [Peacemaker would murder for peace](sPNr2KH_N:m:1:2364960064:0CD4E0BE2E68BAC60FA1E2910D2066DF:r) John Cena brings his The Suicide Squad DC Comics character Peacemaker — a buff guy who wants peace so badly he's willing to be extremely violent about it — to the small screen, with James Gunn writing all the episodes (it was a COVID "fun" project for him) and directing five of them. If you saw the surprisingly great The Suicide Squad (not to be confused with but of course it's going to be confused with the dud Suicide Squad), you know the tone of this, with Gunn riding the gross-out humor of The Suicide Squad into an origin tale of the best character from the film who wasn't a walking weasel and Cena showing off his magnetic star power as a doofus meathead. The first episode starts off a little rocky, but by the time someone explodes and Cena is in his underwear near the end, it finds its groove. Superhero purists may scoff at this, but those who love muscles, violence, and perverted jokes will lap it up. What the parents don’t know is that their kids are watching their every move from a house down the street and meddling in their dates to help their parents spit game and not be totally lame.
