Stop browsing, start watching! The best TV shows and movies to watch on every screen sPeshoHUN:m:1:2364960064:EFC34AD0AC1A2B972ADB81CB1701F8FC:r Hi!
Do as I say, not as I do. In Friday’s newsletter I told you all to watch the Succession Season 3 finale on Sunday night lest you be spoiled today, and here I am ducking the internet because I didn’t even heed my own advice. (My failure to watch involves a brutal visit to the dentist, a bottle of pain pills, and Halo Infinite.) So I will keep this short as I retreat back into my hidey-hole and wait until I can watch my boy Tom Wambsgans screw something up tonight. Below are some suggestions of what to watch this week. -Tim [Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!](sPeshoHUN:m:1:2364960064:EFC34AD0AC1A2B972ADB81CB1701F8FC:r) sPeshoHUN:m:1:2364960064:EFC34AD0AC1A2B972ADB81CB1701F8FC:r MONDAY AT 10/9C ON HBO, HBO MAX [Street Gang tells you how we got to Sesame Street](sPeshoHUN:m:1:2364960064:EFC34AD0AC1A2B972ADB81CB1701F8FC:r) I can't think of a more wholesome time than watching a documentary about how Sesame Street came to be. Back in the '60s, a group of geniuses had the radical idea to make kids' programming educational, which of course ended up becoming one of the most successful and influential TV series of all time. It's fun to see people like Jim Henson and Frank Oz when they were young and totally uncertain about the gamble they were making on this show about friendly puppets. -Allison Picurro sPeshoHUN:m:1:2364960064:EFC34AD0AC1A2B972ADB81CB1701F8FC:r MONDAY AT 10/9C, TUESDAY AT 8/7C, WEDNESDAY AT 8/7C [NBC is throwing a lot of new comedies at you this week](sPeshoHUN:m:1:2364960064:EFC34AD0AC1A2B972ADB81CB1701F8FC:r) I will never understand how broadcast networks determine their schedules. Case in point: NBC is delivering five new one-off episodes of comedy this week, including two premieres several weeks before their actual seasons start. Up first is the most promising of the bunch, American Auto (Monday at 10/9c), starring Ana Gasteyer. It comes from Superstore creator Justin Spitzer, who goes from the struggling essential workers of a big box store to the less necessary executives at a Detroit automaker, but keeps the fast-talking comedy and adds the ridiculousness of a company trying to keep up with trends (the pilot episode involves a self-driving car that might be racist). On Tuesday, NBC debuts Grand Crew (Tuesday, 8/7c), a hangout comedy about a group of six Black friends who convene at a L.A. wine bar. It gets off to a bumpy start, but has plenty of potential thanks to a great cast that includes Nicole Byer, Echo Kellum, and Carl Tart. Both new shows officially start their seasons on Jan. 4. And on Wednesday, NBC is delivering a trio of holiday-themed episodes from Young Rock, Kenan, and Mr. Mayor, despite the fact that they won’t be back until the spring. This is a trend I can get behind. sPeshoHUN:m:1:2364960064:EFC34AD0AC1A2B972ADB81CB1701F8FC:r MINISERIES PREMIERES THURSDAY ON HBO MAX [Station Eleven is an oddly hopeful pandemic sci-fi show](sPeshoHUN:m:1:2364960064:EFC34AD0AC1A2B972ADB81CB1701F8FC:r) For better or worse, many shows have already addressed the pandemic, but Station Eleven seems a little different than the rest, if only because the book it's based on was written years before COVID (the miniseries also started filming before the pandemic). It centers on a group of survivors across different timelines in the wake of a global pandemic that has ravaged much of the world as they work to figure out how to go on in the face of so much devastation. Expect more character-based contemplative science-fiction than action. The series stars Gael García Bernal, Mackenzie Davis, and Himesh Patel, and is brought to the screen by Maniac and Made for Love's Patrick Somerville. Three episodes — each wildly different, but trust us, stick with it — premiere Thursday, with new episodes weekly.
