Ramy returns to Hulu for Season 2. Plus, a new animated comedy is Bobâs Burgers meets Frozen, a neat little sci-fi movie comes to Amazon, celebs get haircuts, and Michael Sheen looks weird.
Hello!
After a few months of nothing but coronavirus news, America is starting to have its old problems again. A police officer killed a black man by kneeling on his neck, which has led to protests all over the country and the burning of the police station in Minneapolis where the officers involved in the killing worked before they were fired. The situation in Minneapolis is so out of hand that the police arrested a CNN crew [on live TV]( this morning. If you’d like to know more about why people are protesting, TV Guide’s Malcolm Venable assembled a [watchlist]( of shows and documentaries contextualizing the history of police brutality and racial injustice in America. Here are this weekend’s picks. -[Liam](

[Ramy is back, Mashallah](
Season 2 Now on Hulu
Ramy, Hulu’s Golden Globe-winning comedy about flaws and faith from co-creator and star Ramy Youssef, brings in a very special guest in Season 2: two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as the leader of a Sufi center who becomes Ramy’s new spiritual teacher. Ramy is trying to become a better man and Muslim after reaching an emotional bottom after hooking up with his cousin in Egypt last season (it’s a long story). Ramy remains the funniest and most thoughtful exploration of religion of any show on TV right now. Season 2 is more serialized than Season 1, which was defined by its [magnificent standalone episodes]( but it still finds time to feature its strong supporting cast, particularly Hiam Abbass as Ramy’s mother Maysa.

Bob’s Hot Dog Stand
[Take a stroll through Central Park](
Now on Apple TV+
Central Park has been in the news lately for an awful racist event that happened there, but most of the time, it’s really nice! And this animated musical comedy from Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard, Frozen star Josh Gad, and writer Nora Smith, celebrates the world’s most famous park. It follows a family of caretakers and features an all-star voice cast, including Gad, Kristen Bell, Tituss Burgess, Daveed Diggs, Kathryn Hahn, and Stanley Tucci. Two episodes are now up on Apple TV+, with additional episodes released weekly.

[You are now entering The Vast of Night](
Now on Amazon Prime Video
This sci-fi film was simultaneously released on Prime Video and to drive-in movie theaters, which feels appropriate because it’s a drive-in-style movie. It’s set in New Mexico in the ‘50s, and follows two teenagers as they investigate a strange audio frequency that came over their radio, a frequency that seems to be coming from way, way, way up in the sky. It’s a clever movie from first-time director Andrew Patterson, who establishes himself as a filmmaker to watch, and it has a Twilight Zone-inspired gimmick that I won’t spoil here, but will make you smile when you see it.
Are the celebs OK?
[The Devil’s Haircut Night in America](
Friday at 8/7c on CBS
As quarantine approaches the 90-day mark, people are getting weird, and TV networks are running out of new stuff to air. Also, haircutting businesses are closed, and people are getting real shaggy. That’s why Haircut Night in America exists. This special, hosted by married actors Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn, consists of celebrities giving each other (or themselves) home haircuts. It’s worth watching because it’s documenting history in real time. It will be a cultural artifact of what American culture was like during the COVID-19 era, along with the [animated episode of The Blacklist]( and Gal Gadot’s “Imagine” video. Also Lindsay Lohan is in it.
Michael Sheen like you’ve never seen him before
[Press your luck with Quiz](
Sunday at 10/9c on AMC
This three-part limited series tells the stranger-than-fiction true story of how Charles and Diana Ingraham (Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen and Fleabag’s Sian Clifford) were convicted of cheating British Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001. The ubiquitous Michael Sheen plays host Chris Tarrant, and is nearly unrecognizable in a blonde wig and Trumpish tan. It’s a worthy entry into the game show scandal dramatization genre, along with...well, just Quiz Show. But this and Quiz Show are both really good!
