Outer Banks gives us a much-needed escape from reality, One Chicago punches out early, Riverdale stages a powerful musical episode, FX on Hulu tackles the complexity of modern feminism, and Haley Joel Osment delights in a show about dead people Hello! Happy Hump Day! There are a lot of shows premiering and finale-ing and otherwise doing big things tonight, but before I get to that, I would like to call attention to the fact that [Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is bringing back a fan-favorite Agent Carter character]( this season! It’s not Peggy—she’s off in an alternate timeline making out with Steve Rogers—but that’s OK because this character is equally great. Honestly, I think I might start watching S.H.I.E.L.D. again just for this. (BTW, if you also miss Agent Carter, the show is available to stream on Disney+.) Here are tonight’s many, many picks. –Kaitlin [Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!]( WATCH THIS NOW [Woman Reading]( [Escape to the Outer Banks for some truly insane teen drama]( Now on Netflix Netflix’s latest teen soap is set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina (but filmed in South Carolina – the magic of TV!), and although the first few episodes are not what I would call “great television,” if you can get past the bad voiceover and the boring set up, we promise [the rest is a show so ridiculous you simply won’t be able to look away from the madness](. There is buried treasure. There is murder. There is a haves-versus-have-nots rivalry. There is beautiful coastal scenery that will give you plenty of reasons to daydream about future trips. And there’s Nashville’s Charles Esten as the only recognizable person in this entire cast, for good reason. If you’re looking for a way to escape from the world for a bit, this is the show to do it. [SHOP NOW]( THE SHOW MUST CHICA-GO ON [One Chicago goes out earlier than planned, but just as dramatic]( Season finales Wednesday starting at 8/7c on NBC The One Chicago shows, like so many others, are ending their seasons early after the [coronavirus pandemic forced them to suspend production](. The evening kicks off with the Season 5 finale of Chicago Med, which finds Ethan (Brian Tee) putting his life in danger to save a child, but before you get too worried, [producers promise the show goes out on a hopeful note](. Then, in Chicago Fire’s Season 8 finale, someone (we can’t say who) finds themselves in harm’s way, and the on-the-job injury will lead to Severide (Taylor Kinney) becoming obsessed with getting to the bottom of what happened. And lastly, the Season 7 finale of Chicago P.D. will end the night [by revisiting last year’s Black Lives Matter episode]( as Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) comes across the racist cop who put a gun to his head. ONCE MORE, WITH FEELING [Riverdale stages its best musical to date]( Wednesday at 8/7c on The CW I will be the first to admit that I lost the plot on Riverdale a long time ago. Please don’t ask me to explain anything about the Chad Michael Murray episodes or how Archie is alive or why Jughead faked his death. I literally have no idea what’s happening anymore. But that’s OK, because here’s what I do know: Riverdale has staged Hedwig and the Angry Inch as this season’s musical, and [it’s the best one the show has done yet](. Instead of performing a stage musical, the cast sings songs from the show to support Kevin (Casey Cott), who has been ousted from the Riverdale High variety show by Principal Honey (Kerr Smith) for wanting to do a Hedwig number. This is probably clear from the trailer The CW released a while ago (and if you know Hedwig at all), but there is a lot of drag in this episode. However, there’s also a lot of angst AND there’s a pretty shocking hookup that my sources tell me is going to seriously complicate things for the rest of the season. WOMEN BE POLICTICKING [Mrs. America is just the latest reason to love Cate Blanchett]( First three episodes now on FX on Hulu The second show to debut as part of FX's new streaming deal with Hulu, Mrs. America chronicles the messy history of modern feminism in the U.S. and the fight to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s (a fight that is still going today). The limited series, which will likely bring FX a slew of Emmy nominations for acting, is largely told through the eyes of Cate Blanchett's conservative homemaker and hopeful politician Phyllis Schlafly, who staunchly believes a woman's place is in the home even though she is quite often not in the home. On the other side of the table are notable figures like Gloria Steinam (Rose Byrne), The Feminine Mystique author Betty Friedan (Tracey Ullman), and Shirley Chisholm (Uzo Aduba), the first woman to run for president for the Democratic party. [The compelling and thoughtful series, which does not take sides in the discussion or draw any conclusions, is must-see TV, largely because of the performances at its center](. YOUR AFTERNOON CRY [The Innocence Files highlights our broken justice system]( Now on Netflix In this country, you're innocent until proven guilty. Supposedly. The truth is this country's justice system is broken, with too much emphasis and pressure on prosecutors getting a conviction in cases. That's led to a rash of wrongful convictions on flimsy evidence, destroying lives all across the country. A bunch of Oscar nominees and winners, including Alex Gibney, Liz Garbus, and Roger Ross Williams, produce this series that follows the Innocence Project as it works tirelessly to overturn eight cases in which the wrong person went to prison. Get ready to be gutted as those who have spent half their lives in jail for something they didn't do finally see justice. –Tim Surette THIS TIME THEY’RE UNDEAD PEOPLE [What We Do in the Shadows slays its two-episode return]( One-hour Season 2 premiere Wednesday at 10/9c on FX Following a first season that got better and better as it went along, FX's What We Do in the Shadows starts Season 2 with its fangs fully sharpened with back-to-back episodes tonight. Based on Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement's mockumentary film of the same name, WWDITS follows a trio of traditional vampires (and one very untraditional "energy vampire") and their human familiar, Guillermo, as they adjust to living in modern times. The premiere episode is a particular treat, with Guillermo's revelation that he's descended from the vampire-hunting Van Helsing clan playing a huge part in his dynamic with his undead masters. Plus, Haley Joel Osment guest-stars and shows some wild acting range. This is quickly becoming one of TV's best comedies. –Tim Surette [Unsubscribe]( | [View online]( ©2020 CBS Interactive | All Rights Reserved.
