Comedian Tom Papa says youâre doing great in his new special, a young adult supernatural show adds Norse mythology to climate activism, and Florence Pugh takes her family to the mat.
Hello!
One of the great joys of Sundays is plopping onto the couch in a human-shaped pool of nothingness and catching up on television. But if you’ve been entering Monday Eves with a rare sense of responsibility lately, you’re not alone. [As The Outline’s Jeremy Gordon points out]( our recent Sundays have been disrupted by big, live TV events. Two Sundays ago it was the Grammys and WWE’s Royal Rumble. Last Sunday it was the Super Bowl. And Next Sunday will be the Oscars. These are all three-hour-plus broadcasts crimping our regularly scheduled time for finishing that Netflix series about cheerleaders that everyone is talking about! (It’s good, [you should watch it]( C’mon TV schedulers, do better. We’ll do our part, too. Let’s all be an emo band singing “[I just wanna break you down so badly]( because we’re taking back Sundays. Starting Feb. 16! Oh dang it, that’s the NBA All-Star Game. We’ll get back on track one of these days. Here are tonight’s TV picks. –Tim

Now on Netflix
I don’t know how many Norwegian teen climate activist dramas that incorporate updated Norse mythology are out there, but this has to be one of the best. This new Netflix series puts a spin on supernatural YA shows with a young, oafish man who might be the second coming of Thor, but the woke twist here is that he’s back to stop a powerful family that’s polluting his picturesque town with its business endeavors and engineering the end of the world (and who are more than what they seem). As the teen begins to develop his powers (dude can chuck a hammer!), he’s slowly transformed into a Norwegian hunk… and he has to navigate some normal high school problems. It’s surprisingly watchable thanks in large part to Norway’s landscape, a charismatic cast, and the fact that it’s wildly different from what you’re used to.

Do you want to watch a raven-haired Florence Pugh dropkick some brawny wrestlers? Of course you do. This 2019 comedy film from Stephen Merchant features the Midsommar and Little Women star (and Academy Award nominee) playing the WWE wrestler Paige in a biopic about her life. Paige, who comes from a family of wrestlers, got her break at a tryout for the American wrestling league, and the rest is history. But Fighting With My Family is imbued with plenty of comedy about an eccentric family and inspiration to chase your dreams. And with Nick Frost and Lena Headey playing Paige’s parents, Vince Vaughn as a WWE promoter, and a cameo from The Rock (who serves as producer), it’s more fun than dropping an elbow from the top rope.
HOW WE DOIN?
[State of the Union](
[Our sad, sorry State of the Union](
Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, and major news networks
You can either read a slanted take on the annual State of the Union from your favorite source of news after the fact, or you can watch it live and form opinions for yourself. President Donald Trump will address the nation where he [reportedly won’t say much about the impeachment trial]( (and [probably American geography]( focusing his efforts on telling America why he should be re-elected for a second term instead.

[Tom Papa: You're Doing Great!](
[Maybe the world’s bad, but Tom Papa thinks you’re doing great](
Now on Netflix
The perfect palate cleanser to the State of the Union and the general state of the world is Tom Papa’s new stand-up special Tom Papa: You’re Doing Great. While most comedians mine comedy from the tunnels of anger and commiseration, Papa’s out there with a smile on his face saying things don’t always have to be perfect, so go ahead and eat that donut. “You don’t have an Olympic athlete’s body, so what? You’re not an Olympic athlete,” he tells us reassuringly. The Sirius XM radio host takes a non-cynical look at the world, reminding us being tired, a little chubby, a little anxious, and a little depressed is perfectly normal and that’s how everyone feels. Papa somehow manages to tip-toe on the edge of optimistic without fully going nihilistic by bringing people up instead of taking people down.
