Steve Buscemi shovels excrement as his comedy time-travels to the Dark Ages, Piper gets to unleash heck in the finale of Emergence, and a modern Disney classic is now streaming.
Hello!
Tonight we say goodbye to Arrow (see our top pick, below) after eight seasons of salmon laddering and politicking (and, time permitting, saving the universe). I wrote about [how it was one of the most influential shows of the last decade]( and Kaitlin wrote about [how it shaped the entirety of a network]( (not necessarily for good). But as big as a show like Arrow is, its departure underlines how we watch TV now. In the past, there would be a big to-do about an eight-season series going off the air, but now? All but superfans are like, “Phew, that’s one less TV show I need to watch.” It’s kind of sad, really. Pay your respects to your elders! Here are tonight’s TV picks. –Tim

Series finale Tuesday at 9/8c on The CW
How does a show say goodbye to a hero who is already dead? We’ll find out tonight as Arrow comes to a close after Oliver Queen’s death in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Expect a lot of tears as characters pay their respects to the hooded one, and maybe even an appearance by Oliver from beyond the grave. The moment we’re all waiting for, however, is the reunion between Oliver and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards returns for the series finale), which absolutely HAS to happen or else we’re flipping tables. The episode is preceded by an hourlong retrospective of the series titled Arrow: Hitting the Bullseye.

[Miracle Workers: Dark Ages goes medieval on comedy](
Season 2 premiere Tuesday at 10:30/9:30c on TBS
You’d never know Miracle Workers: Dark Ages was the follow-up to the first season of Miracle Workers; they share a name and cast, but little else. The anthology moves to the Middle Ages in its second season, following a young peasant woman (Geraldine Viswanathan) who wants to do more than her father’s (Steve Buscemi) family business of shoveling human poo, and the king’s daydreaming son (Daniel Radcliffe) who doesn’t have the bloodlust of his dad. Creator Simon Rich adds his usual sense of satire to the mix, putting the troubles of today’s youth in the very old days, and while funny, Dark Ages doesn’t touch on the profundity of Rich’s best work, Man Seeking Woman (which is available on Hulu). Still, [I laughed plenty and never felt put out by watching it](.

[Is this it for Emergence?](
Season 1 finale Tuesday at 10/9c on ABC
Emergence is this year’s new mystery-box sci-fi series, so let’s see if it sticks the landing tonight in the season finale. (I feel that it is my responsibility to tell you it might very well be a series finale as well; it’s getting crummy ratings.) It appears as though we’ll finally get to see Piper unleash whatever powers her programming will allow -- she’s an A.I. -- in a last fight to save Jo (Alison Tolman) from big baddie Helen, who practically laughed as she got her throat slit in the previous episode because she’s kind of a badass. The series comes from competent TV writers Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, so I have some confidence in this episode.

[The Lion King just can’t wait to be streamed](
Now on Disney+
The 1994 animated classic The Lion King is pretty much as close to perfect as a movie can get, so of course Disney decided to remake it. The 2019 version of The Lion King used fancy computers to make animals look extremely life-like, which was hit-or-miss with viewers. Still, it’s a gorgeous film that will look great on your home TV even as you question whether or not we really needed a remake. Yes, the animated original is also available on Disney+.
