Santa Claus is coming to a small Colorado town and things won’t be merry, a deaf boy’s desire to be Beethoven will inspire you, and Satan gets an unexpected letter. Hello! The best feature of Netflix — its robust library of options to watch — is also its biggest pain in the A. You know the deal: With so many choices and a constant stream of new titles dropping almost daily, figuring out what to watch is the biggest barrier to watching anything. To combat this, Netflix is trying something new with a small selection of subscribers by [adding a “Watch Now” button]( as you select your profile; the magical algorithm will select the next episode of a show you’re currently watching, something from your Watch List, or a new title suggested by the robotic elves that run Netflix behind the scenes. This obviously won’t work as a solution for everyone, and what used to be the time-sucking process of browsing the main screen will now become repeatedly hitting the Watch Now button until you get lucky (if you get lucky at all). This is a problem all streaming services — well, maybe not Apple TV+ and its bare cupboards — have, and the only way to cut through the clutter and make a decision is with a newsletter that makes picks for you with a human touch. How’s that for a sneaky plug? Here are tonight’s TV picks. –Tim [Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!]( WATCH THIS NOW! [Stumptown]( [Stumptown takes a detour to dumptown]( Wednesday at 10/9c on ABC ABC’s quirky character-driven procedural is best when it throws problems of her own making at Portland private investigator Dex (Cobie Smulders), and she’ll be dodging a bunch of them in tonight’s fall finale. Following the events of last week’s episode — in which Dex did something she knows will hurt Miles, the guy she’s sort of dating, and Nick Miller Grey, her best friend — the truth comes out, and it’s not pretty. It’s a big episode for shippers and Dex’s bisexuality, ending with one character realizing what we’ve known all along, a realization that will add some juice to the show when it returns next year. Plus, we get to see Dex deal with catty, spoiled high school girls — the worst! — in a case that involves Adderall and volleyball. STRIVING FOR PERFECTION [Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements]( [Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements doesn’t treat deafness as a disability]( Wednesday at 9/8c on HBO Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” is considered one of the most challenging popular pieces of piano, but for 11-year-old Jonas, that wouldn’t deter him… even though he’s deaf and uses cochlear implants to hear (Beethoven was also going deaf when he wrote the piece). Jonas’ filmmaking mother Irene Taylor Brodsky turns the camera on him as he attempts to learn the composition despite his condition for an emotional look at deafness, which isn’t treated here as a disability. Jonas’ grandparents, who are both deaf and were the subject of Brodsky’s previous documentary, also play a big part in the film, and along with Beethoven, mirror the Sonata’s three movements across three generations. But it’s the intimate look at Jonas’ life and aspirations that really carry the film. RETURN TO SENDER [Dear Satan]( [A typo changes Christmas in Dear Satan]( Now on [YouTube]( By now, you should be on your second draft of your letter to Santa in order to get that Paw Patrol Lookout Tower that you’ve been acting good for all year. But please make sure to give it a third or fourth lookover to make sure you catch all your typos. Otherwise, this charming video about Christmas gone wrong could happen in real life. The animated short (it’s six minutes long) follows Satan as he gets a letter intended for Santa, but the author is a young girl who can’t spell. It’s narrated by Patrick Stewart and includes cursing and vomiting, but it still taps into the spirit of Christmas with humor and heart. MERRY %&*$MAS [South Park]( [South Park brings the Christmas jeer]( Season 23 finale at 10/9c on Comedy Central Season 23 of South Park has been all over the place; there was an extended arc about Randy’s pot farm, followed by episodes that served as faux spin-offs for the town’s eclectic characters. It looks like tonight’s finale follows suit, but at least there’s more sense to it than the randomness of its predecessors. It’s December, so the episode “Christmas Snow” features Santa Claus, but in a South Park twist, he’s “stealing all the joy from the town’s holiday season.” There’s also a chance that one of South Park’s stinkiest characters, Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo, could show up.
