The third season of an Emmy-award winning Amazon show about a frustrated housewife striking out on her own returns, the first Kenya Barris/Netflix collab drops a new kind of sketch comedy show, and an iconic queer series gets a younger, worker chapter.
Hello!
Whoever created advent calendars filled with sweet chocolate treats that are only supposed to be eaten once a day is a cop. Luckily, TV development executives don’t have the same sadistic tendencies as confectioners all around the world during Christmas, and you can binge all of these satisfying new shows at once. I promise there’s not a single holiday special used as newsletter filler in there, just the sweet, sweet thrill of five brand new premieres. -Senior Editor, [Krutika Mallikarjuna](

[The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is the Hanukkah gift we’ve been waiting for](
Season 3 now on Amazon Prime
After that heart-stopping kiss in the Season 2 finale between Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) and her complete egg of an ex-husband, fans (okay, maybe just me) have been waiting breathlessly to watch Midge put Joel in his place at the beginning of Season 3. Well they won’t have to wait much longer, and if the new casting announcement for this season is any indication — Sterling K. Brown! In an undisclosed role! Lounging on a Miami beach! — Midge won’t even have time to think about Joel as she joins a USO tour and is swept from city to city and man-child to man.
KENYA BARRIS IS BACK AT IT AGAIN
[Astronomy Club will leave you in stitches](
Now on Netflix
Astronomy Club might sound vaguely familiar: The historically black sketch and improv group has garnered quite a reputation in LA and even created a web series for Comedy Central last year. Now they’re making the leap to Netflix with the help of Kenya Barris, the creator of black-ish. Astronomy Club will be the first show to debut from Barris’ Netflix deal, and the troupe is expanding their hits into a half-hour sketch format, including plenty of celeb cameos like Ice Cube.
SHANE WHO?
[The L Word: Generation Q puts a brand new face on the iconic queer show](
Series Premiere Sunday at 10/9c on Showtime
When The L Word debuted on Showtime in 2004, the show wasn't just revolutionary for the fact that it was an in-depth narrative about the modern lesbian scene in Los Angeles; it also featured frank discussions about sex, love, and found family in a brutally honest way. Now, a decade after The L Word's series finale aired, the show is returning for an eight-episode revival, The L Word: Generation Q, and it couldn't be coming at a better time. Three of The L Word's original characters — Shane (Kate Moennig), Bette (Jennifer Beals), and Alice (Leisha Hailey) — are returning for the revival, joined by a new group of queer friends whose lives are quite different from theirs. The trio will act as the guiding hands for this new generation, but their stories take a bit of a backseat, allowing new evolutions of queer identity to flourish.
AS IF SAVING THE UNIVERSE WASN’T ENOUGH
[Steven Universe: Future is a brand new chapter of Crystal Gem history](
Saturday at 8/7c on Cartoon Network
After Steven Universe: The Movie helped fans transition from the sweet, static, childlike Steven of yore to the more mature, seasoned, and empathetic teenager we now know and love, it’s time to find out what’s next for Steven. The last time we saw him, he saved humanity, Homeworld, and even the remnants of the Diamonds from themselves. In this new coda, we’ll find Steven settling new gems who’ve decided to leave Homeworld behind into earth school, and finding a new path for himself that doesn’t involve fighting. Catch the first four episodes of this new series on Saturday.
CALLING ALL SERIAL STANS
[Truth Be Told boasts Sarah Koenig as a consultant](
First three episodes now on Apple+
An adaptation of Kathleen Barber's crime novel Are You Sleeping?, Truth Be Told is truly a suspense-filled thriller worthy of Octavia Spencer’s talents. Spencer plays Poppy Parnell, the host of a true crime podcast whose reporting was key in convicting Warren Cave (played by Aaron Paul) for an infamous San Francisco murder. However, 18 years after the case, Parnell finds herself shifting through decades of buried secrets, family betrayals, and her own evidence collection as she realizes Cave might actually be innocent. The first episodes debut today, the rest will be released weekly on Fridays.
ALL CW, ALL WEEK
[Arrowverse’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover is a week-long television event](
StarTing Sunday with Supergirl at 8/7c on The CW
The yearly Arrowverse crossover event has become a staple of The CW, but this year is going to be a particularly epic one since it will be the last to incorporate Arrow, the flagship show of the franchise. Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and newcomer Batwoman are airing episodes but they won’t be the only DC heroes who show up. The CW has already teased a Black Lightning appearance, a future Batman cameo, a Smallville reunion (TOM WELLING!), as well as TWO additional Supermans (hello Brandon Routh and Tyler Hoechlin). Expect major deaths (here’s looking at you Oliver Queen) and major changes to The CW’s Arrowverse.
