[Evil is good](
Series premiere Thursday at 10/9c on CBS
This is the best new broadcast drama of the season. It’s not even particularly close. The other good one, [Prodigal Son, is a lot of fun]( but [it’s not on Evil’s level in terms of creativity and style](. Evil has George, a sleep paralysis demon who torments Katja Herbers’ character and pees on her floor to prove that he’s real. He’s an unsettling, desiccated ghoul who speaks in a posh British accent. Plus, he makes exposition entertaining. You’ll love him. The premise of the show is that a forensic psychologist (Herbers) [teams up with a priest-in-training]( (Luke Cage’s Mike Colter) to investigate possible cases of demonic possession. Michael Emerson plays a bad guy who may or may not be a demon himself.

Series premiere now on Shudder
Horror-centric streaming service Shudder is getting into the originals game with this anthology series inspired by the classic [George Romero-Stephen King ‘80s movie]( with The Walking Dead executive producer Greg Nicotero at the helm. The premiere is two spooky little shorts. The first is called “Gray Matter,” and it stars Giancarlo Esposito, Tobin Bell, and Adrienne Barbeau. It’s based on a Stephen King short story about one of his favorite topics, which is a person turning into a literal monster as a metaphor for alcoholism. I [visited the set]( while it was being filmed. The other is called “The House of the Head,” and it stars The Walking Dead’s Cailey Fleming as a girl with a haunted dollhouse. It gets a lot more mileage out of static images of dolls than you’d expect! This is a fun little project. New episodes stream every Thursday through Halloween.

Season 16 premiere Thursday at 8/7c on ABC
Grey’s Anatomy will kick off its 16th (!!!) season by picking up where it left off, with day ones Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Richard (James Pickens Jr.), and Alex (Justin Chambers) dealing with getting fired for committing insurance fraud, and Jackson (Jesse Williams) disappearing in a fog, leaving Maggie (Kelly McCreary) to search for him. We’ll also check in with Jo (Camilla Luddington), who after checking herself into the psych ward in the Season 15 finale is now on a [path of healing](.

Season 2 premiere now on Netflix
Netflix’s collaboration with the media company Vox, whose signature article format is the explainer, is back for a second season of answering Jadakiss’ immortal question, “[Why?]( This season investigates how animals’ brains tick, why there are so many billionaires (ft. Bernie Sanders), and how cults work. The episodes are narrated by a diverse group of people including Lakeith Stanfield, J.K. Simmons, and Karlie Kloss. Watch this and impress your friends with your sudden knowledge of the athleisure industry.

Season 4 premieres Thursday at 9/8c on NBC
The Good Place, [one of TV’s best shows]( is back for its fourth and final season, and you can be sure it has some twists up its sleeve before it wraps up for good. Season 4 starts with Eleanor (Kristen Bell) taking over as architect of a new experiment with four test subjects under her supervision. This will be the first Good Place season where Chidi portrayer William Jackson Harper is a movie star, thanks to Midsommar, a great movie he did during his summer break last year. He’s starting to get typecast as academics, but he’s really good at it!
