A movie based on a viral internet show, a thrilling international crime drama, and and a docu-series

A movie based on a viral internet show, a thrilling international crime drama, and and a docu-series on the enigmatic Microsoft founder are your streaming picks Hello! In case you missed it in the other 50 newsletters you’ve probably signed up for, but only partially skim, the [71st Annual Primetime Emmys]( are coming up this weekend. Maybe you’re the type of person who throws a party and [bets on the results]( as if this awards show is fantasy football. But more likely, you’re the kind of person who’ll laugh at memes on Twitter and skip the actual show. And honestly who could blame you? The Academy is so dusty that it’ll probably vote for The Big Bang Theory in every category regardless of whether it’s been nominated in that field or not. Fear not, not only does TV Guide [have you covered]( if awards season is basically your Super Bowl, but we also have five excellent binge-worthy options to watch in case you feel like using your evening in a more productive manner. Here are your streaming picks by Senior Editor [Krutika Mallikarjuna](. [Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!]( WATCH THIS NOW [Criminal is a fascinating mind game]( Now on Netflix [Criminal]( is a testament to great storytelling. The unique Netflix experiment is 12 episodes set across four countries. Each trio of stories takes place on the same exact set: one police interrogation room and the two hallways that lead to it. The brilliance of this series comes from the claustrophobia of the almost bottle episode-like conditions; each episode builds stakes by pitting a suspect against detectives in a brutal battle of wits and manipulation. With guest stars like David Tennant and Hayley Atwell, the series delivers the tense high stakes of great thrillers without relying on action at all. BEHIND-THE-SCENES OF YOUR FAVORITE FAKE SHOW [In Between Two Ferns: The Movie, Zach Galifianakis demands to be taken seriously]( Now on Netflix Zach Galifianakis will return to sit once more betwixt his ferns. Netflix is bringing back the viral internet sensation, in which Galifianakis uses his signature abrupt, deadpan style of humor to interview celebrities, as a full-length feature called Between Two Ferns: The Movie. The movie is not only a star-studded extravaganza (Matthew McConaughey momentarily dies, Jon Hamm finally gets the hot idiot representation he deserves, and Chrissy Teigen turns John Legend's EGOT into a euphemism) but also the dramatic and sweeping narrative of (fictional) Galifianakis's comeback. Fearing that he's become a laughingstock among serious critics and profilers, Galifianakis launches a grand cross-country tour, trying to rack up a string of blockbuster celebrity interviews in order to restore the good name of Between Two Ferns. But because he's Zack Galifianakis, things don't really pan out — for him or the beleaguered celebs he interviews. Oh, and apparently Keanu Reeves will make an appearance. DADCORE VIEWING [Inside Bill’s Brain is a deep dive into the life and genius of Bill Gates]( Now on Netflix Inside Bill’s Brain is a new docu-series by award winning filmmaker David Guggenheim for Netflix. The episodes have a unique style, cutting from subject to subject seemingly at random. But that’s a very specific choice by Guggenheim to showcase how nonlinear Bill Gates’s mind really is. Jumping from philanthropy to his falling out with Paul Allen to his marriage with Melinda Gates to how to solve the clean water crisis, the series is almost too short to explore its subject thoroughly. But it’s still a fascinating watch, despite the fact we only get a glimpse at who Bill Gates really is. AN UNLIKELY FRANCHISE STRIKES AGAIN [Lego Movie 2 is finally available to stream]( Saturday on HBO Go and HBO Now Everyone was shocked as hell when the first Lego Movie not only made money, but was actually good. It was a cinematic feat in that something that was essentially a two-hour ad for Legos was both wildly entertaining and brought to life characters audiences genuinely cared about. The franchise game was inevitable, and Lego Movie 2 appropriately ups the stakes by sending our erstwhile heroes beyond the confines of the known Lego universe. Catch the starcrossing second act this weekend on HBO. CALLING ALL TRUE CRIME STANS [Beyond the Headlines: Escaping the NXIVM Cult With Gretchen Carlson pulls back the curtain on one of the decade’s most horrifying true crime stories]( Saturday at 10/9c on Lifetime Gretchen Carlson investigates the NXIVM cult in a new documentary from Lifetime. Billed as a companion piece to the fictional movie Lifetime produced earlier this year, the doc peels back the structural layers within the cult that it made so easy for Keith Raniere and his associates to trap young women in a secret sex cult. Featuring a first hand account from Catherine Oxenberg, who worked tirelessly to free her daughter from the clutches of NXIVM, this doc will surely be riveting for any true crime fan.
