Hello!
Sunday evening is going to be a big night for [Mahershala Ali](. It’s the season finale of [True Detective]( ([we don’t know what’s going to happen]( plus he’s going to win his second Oscar in three years for [Green Book](. That’s just one of our many [all-but-certain Academy Awards predictions]( you can take to the bank. Seriously. We’ve never been wrong. We even predicted the [La La Land]( snafu. OK, that’s not true, but we’re confident in our prediction that [Black Panther]( will win Best Picture. It could really happen! You’ll impress your friends with your prognostication skills. After you’ve read that, check out tonight’s TV picks: -Liam Mathews

WATCH THIS NOW
[Watch Desus & Mero or catch these hands](
Series premiere Thursday at 11/10c on Showtime
YERRRR! That’s the sound of the Bronx’s two funniest comedians, [Desus Nice]( and [The Kid Mero]( arriving on Showtime to kick off their new late-night show, the cable network’s first. It’s basically the same format as their erstwhile Viceland show, where they riff on the events of the day and interview a guest (the premiere will see them spend a day in the BX with Rep. [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez]( just bigger and better. They may not be household names yet, but they’re addictively funny. You’ll want to know what they think about everything. Familiarize yourself with these phrases, because you’ll be hearing them a lot: “Number one show in late night,” “the brand is strong,” “my guts hurt,” “La Marina,” etc.
Who’s more famous: Shatner or Kareem?
[The Big Bang Theory gets back to its nerdy roots](
Thursday at 8/7c on CBS
The Big Bang Theory may only be three months out from ending forever, but it’s still finding time to do standalone episodes that don’t move it toward its endgame. This is one of those episodes. And it’s a fun one, where everyone’s worst personality traits come out when they all try to score an invite to Wil Wheaton’s celebrity Dungeons & Dragons game. Guest stars include [William Shatner]( [Joe Manganiello]( [Kevin Smith]( and “this really tall guy named [Kareem]( who none of the guys know. If you want some classic Big Bang nerdy action, here’s your ep.
It’s Gotta Be the Shoes
[Take Unbanned: The Legend of AJ1 out of the box](
Now on Hulu
The Air Jordan 1 changed the world. Not in the way that, like, Franklin D. Roosevelt changed the world, but sports, fashion, music and celebrity culture were never the same after the NBA forbade [Michael Jordan]( from wearing his unprecedentedly colorful sneakers on the court and he wore them anyway. This documentary explains how and why the sneakers became so important, via interviews with famous sneakerheads like [Mark Wahlberg]( [Lena Waithe]( [Jason Sudeikis]( and [Anthony Anderson]( as well as the people involved with the creation of the myth: Nike commercial star [Spike Lee]( designer Tinker Hatfield, former NBA commissioner David Stern -- the man who banned the shoes -- and His Airness himself. This is a must-watch for anyone who knows a Bred from a Chicago.
This’ll Blow You Away
[The Drug King is like K-Scorsese](
Now on Netflix
[Song Kang-ho]( is one of South Korea’s greatest actors, starring in legendary movies like [Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance]( and [The Host](. And if he’s the Korean Pacino, this is his [Scarface](. He even sits at a desk all slumped over and defeated like Tony Montana at the end. Song plays Lee Doo-sam, who built an empire smuggling drugs from the Korean city of Busan into Japan in the 1970s. If you’re the type of guy who decorated his room with posters from [Goodfellas]( and [Blow]( and [Carlito’s Way]( you may want to clear some space on your wall.
Catch the Y2K bug
[Dare to be stupid with Final Destination](
Now on Netflix
Much has been made about horror movies’ current Blumhouse-led creative renaissance, but let’s throw it back to when they were bad, just because we can. This goofy 2000 popcorn flick -- back on Netflix as of Feb. 1 -- kicked off one of the defining fright franchises of the barbarous Bush II era, and it’s way more fun than [Saw](. Relive the heady days of when [Devon Sawa]( gelled hair was the height of style. We used to be so innocent, you know? If your bloodlust isn’t sated after the first one, you can binge [2]( and [3]( too.
