[Who knows TV better than TV stars? Celebs from the small screen tell you what to watch, including a true-crime documentary where the truth comes in several shades of gray, a drama about an older couple toying with an open marriage, and a thriller that brings a film legend to television.](#)
[TV Guide Watch This Now!](
Hello!
Television stars may work 12 hours days and spend the rest of their time promoting their work or, time permitting, sleeping, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t just as addicted to television as we are. We chatted with several NBC series stars about which shows they would recommend, and we got a wide range of responses, from thrillers about saving the world to a dark comedy about the pitfalls of dating in Los Angeles, that we’re passing along to you.

[Homecoming](
[Homecoming hits home for a This Is Us star](
Season 1 is now on Amazon
[This Is Us]( [Jon Huertas]( (who plays Miguel) gives a hearty recommendation to Amazon’s puzzle-box mystery, because he can personally relate to it. “I’m a veteran; I served in the Air Force for about eight years. Homecoming is dealing with veterans returning and transitioning into civilian life. There’s a twist in it that’s amazing,” Huertas told us. “The way it deals with veterans is done in a very realistic way, and how they deal with the trauma they may have experienced and how they transition into civilian life. But also, the storytelling and the filmmaking is badass.”
A TRUE HERO GOES FOR TRUE CRIME
[Making a Murderer](
[Chicago Fire's captain gets heated up over Making a Murderer](
Seasons 1 and 2 are on Netflix
"I just finished Season 2 of Making a Murderer, I loved it!” [Jesse Spencer]( who plays Casey on [Chicago Fire]( raved about the true-crime documentary that spurred the genre’s recent explosion. “I think it’s fascinating — the evidence, the cover-up, what’s true and what’s not. What’s in the edit that’s in the documentary that may sway it one way or the other?” But he cautions viewers to remember the most important part: “It’s heartbreaking, because these are real people’s lives, never forget that, but boy is it good TV.”
ACTING CLASS IS IN SESSION
[Wanderlust](
[Wanderlust puts one of our favorites in her Good Place](
Season 1 is on Netflix
[D'Arcy Carden]( plays the all-knowing entity Janet in [The Good Place]( so you’d better listen when she has a TV recommendation. “I’ve been watching Wanderlust, which is a story I haven’t heard told before. It’s a couple trying to navigate being an open couple. They’re in their 40s with kids,” Carden explained. “Also the British humor is great. And it’s sexy as hell!” As a longtime fan of star Toni Collette, Carden said she continues to be blown away by the Emmy winner’s acting. “Toni Collette is phenomenal in everything she does, and this is no exception. It’s like a master class.”
JIM HALPERT GOT BUFF
[Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan](
[A Timeless star makes time for Jack Ryan](
Season 1 is on Amazon
[Matt Lanter]( plays the action hero of NBC’s cherished [Timeless]( but he’s more than happy to watch others save the day when he’s watching TV. “Right now I’m on Episode 9 out of 10 of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, I’m really enjoying that,” Lanter admitted. And though the globe-spanning action is the show’s main draw, he says he knows the show wouldn’t work without the right person. “International terrorism is a really interesting thing, and I love John Krasinski. He brings a lightness and charm to the role. It’s a good balance of John Krasinski and action-adventure.”
TWO WRONGS MAKE A RIGHT
[You're the Worst](
[You’re the Worst is the best for a Good Girls player](
Seasons 1 through 4 are on FX+
[Manny Montana]( plays Rio on [Good Girls]( but he doesn’t let a full-time gig keep him from his favorite hobby. “I watch an incredible amount of TV. I’m not one of these people who’s like, ‘Who has the time?’ I make time,” he admitted. In addition to This Is Us, Better Things and Kidding, Manny said he loves the hyper-reality of FXX’s You’re the Worst. “[I love] how insane the actors are, how ballsy they are, how insane the writing is,” he told us. “I never know what the characters are going to do. It’s insane stuff that would never think happen, but then you’re like, I know people like that who would do that.” The show is about to end its run with Season 5, but Manny said, ”I think it’s a good place to end.”
