Refinery29 Welcomes Live Nation's Chris Summer as VP of Business
Former Live Nation exec Chris Summer has found a new home at Refinery29 as the company's senior VP of business development and strategy. The industry veteran will lead brand strategy and business development for the digital media company. He will also focus on the companyâs live-events business as well as expanding the distribution for R29âs video content including its forthcoming OTT Channel.
Digital Media Company Inverse.com Lays Off Six Staffers
Digital media company Inverse.com, which launched in 2015, laid off six staffers last week, according to a report from the Hollywood Reporter. According to the report, the company also made at least one layoff in May. Inverse.com focuses on reaching millennial males through coverage of subjects like science, technology, and entertainment. The company raised $6 million in the fall of 2016.
Nickelodeon Doubles Down in VR with New "SlimeZone" Series
Nickelodeon debuted "SlimeZone VR Showdown," the network's brand-new digital-first series, on its YouTube [channel](. The 4-episode new digital series where viewers can watch players go into Nickelodeonâs "SlimeZone VR" experience to compete. The episodes will debut every Wednesday with the last episode, which features a behind-the-scenes look, on September 5.
Stringr Engages Leading Online Video Platform Brightcove
[Stringr]( the marketplace that allows media organizations to buy video footage from videographers, has today announced it will be using the [Brightcove]( video platform. Brightcove, the leading provider of cloud services for video will enable Stringr customers to deliver videos through its online video player, enabling publishers an end-to-end solution to source, edit and publish content.
Discovery's HGTV Sees Boost in Ratings Thanks to Digital Strategy
Discoveryâs Lifestyle Digital Studios has seen success in using digital platforms to reach new audiences. HGTV: "Flip or Flopâs" digital content has led to 8M video views across Facebook and Instagram with current ratings 18% ahead of the prior season. Additionally, its "Ghost Adventures" series digital content totaled over 2M views across Facebook and Instagram and an average engagement rate of 55.9 on FB and 324.0 on IG.
Tribeca Film Festival Announces Date for its 18th Edition
The [Tribeca Film Festival]( presented by AT&T, announced that its 18th edition will take place April 24 - May 5, 2019 in New York City. Tribeca celebrates storytelling in all its forms from film to TV, VR to gaming. Submissions will open on August 20 for feature and short films; episodic and online storytelling; virtual, immersive, and augmented reality; as well as branded entertainment.
