[Ford Motors Vs General Motors: Which Is The Better Buy?]( Â - Both companies posted solid Q1 results.
- Chip shortages are weighing on car manufacturers, but one has an advantage in that regard.
- While there are obvious similarities in the two, the differences in the companies may determine which is the better investment. It goes without saying that Ford Motor Company (F) and General Motors Company (GM) have much in common. Both have a Financial Services segment that provides around a tenth of total revenues. The companies are the two largest motor vehicle manufacturers in the United States: in 2020, GM held 17.1% of US sales, while Ford captured 13.7% of the US market. However, those totals represent a marked decline over the last two decades, as the companiesâ combined US market share was over 50% in 2000. Ford and GM provided solid Q1 results, and like all other vehicle manufacturers, they are experiencing difficulties due to a global chip shortage. Both are expanding in China at a marked rate, with 42.5% of GMâs vehicle sales coming from that country in 2020, while 14.7% of Fordâs total sales originated in the Middle Kingdom.  [MARUTI SUZUKI TURNS ITS ATTENTION TO BURGEONING MIDSIZE SUV SEGMENT, READIES PRODUCT PLAN]( The countryâs largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) is looking at âsome actionâ in the mid-SUV segment for strengthening its market share in the vertical, in order to sustain the firmâs current 50 per cent levels in the overall domestic PV sales going ahead, according to a senior company official. Currently, the mid-SUV segment is dominated by the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the country. MSI is there in the segment with S-Cross but the model has so far failed to draw in big volumes for the auto major. âIn the mid-SUV, our market share is actually quite low, even though Vitara Brezza is leading in the entry-SUV segment. In the mid-SUV, we have the S-Cross, which we recently launched with a new engine in August. And, I think it has given us suboptimal numbers so far, which we intend to increase in the coming years,â MSI Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava said in an analyst call. He noted that the company is looking at the space carefully. âSo, yes, we will have a product plan but I am really constrained. I really canât speak about the future product plan in that segment. But yes, we are cognisant of the fact and we are looking at this segment very, very carefully. And, definitely, we will see some action there,â Srivastava said. He acknowledged that the companyâs overall market share in the multiple purpose vehicles (MPV) segment is getting pulled down due to âsuboptimalâ performance in the fast-growing SUV segment. The Netherlands doesnât really manufacture passenger cars. The only manufacturer here is Nedcar, which makes cars on behalf of BMW. Yet our country is the world champion in the automotive field, particularly in terms of e-mobility. Not for nothing was the Netherlands number one on the âAutonomous Vehicles Readiness Indexâ (AVRI) back in 2019. This is a ranking put together by KPMG to measure a countryâs level of preparedness for autonomous vehicles (the Netherlands ranked second behind Singapore in 2020). The Automotive Disruption Radar from the German consulting firm Roland Berger ranked the Netherlands first in its last two editions. The worldâs most economical car The hub of the Dutch automotive sector is, as is widely known, Brainport, as in the south east of the province of Brabant. Two companies that are disruptive, as in disrupting the status quo, are NXP and Lightyear. Maurice Geraets (Executive Director of NXP) and Tom Selten (Business Development Lead at Lightyear) joined presenter Bart Brouwers around the discussion table during the DTW talk on the future of mobility. Beforehand Geraets, had jokingly asked Selten when he could pick up his Lightyear solar car. Perhaps a little surprising, his reply was: âthis very year.â That would signify a milestone. Within five years, this would take the worldâs most fuel-efficient car from the design table to the road. [Read Full Article]( You Might Like [Learn more about RevenueStripe...]( Â
