Your Daily Automobile updates From Around The World [  The Automobile News]( You Might Like [Learn more about RevenueStripe...](     [Global Chip Shortage Costs Automotive Sector €90 Billion]( he world is in the grips of a global chip shortage, with demand for semiconductors surging beyond capacity for supply. The shortage is crippling players in a diversity of industries, though carmakers seemingly have it the worst. At the beginning of 2021, the crisis was forecast to incur losses of approximately €60 billion in the automotive sector – but that figure having risen by a third in the months since. Now, according to a study by consulting firm AlixPartners, losses relating to the chip shortage stand at over €90 billion for the automotive sector. Meanwhile, the industry has lost considerably more production volume over that same period. In January, AlixPartners projected that manufacturers would produce about 2.2 million fewer cars than planned – but currently, the loss for 2021 has already spirally to an estimated at nearly 4 million vehicles. Such is the fall in production that many major car manufacturers – including Ford, General Motors, Volkswagen, Toyota and Daimler – have been shutting down their factories. With no end in sight, according to the researchers, the automotive sector will have to deal with this problem for some time to come.  [Read Full Article](   [Global EV Gold Rush Fails To Rub Off On India](  From GM to Ford, VW and Honda, global carmakers have been making commitments to shift the entire fleet to electric vehicles, but in India, after an initial policy push, an aggressive EV plan has come to a near standstill A massive shift is underway across the global automotive industry. And India’s automobile industry just doesn’t seem to be pressing the pedal fast enough.  Over the past few months, everyone from General Motors to Ford Motor Company, Volkswagen and Honda have been making commitments to shift their entire fleet to electric vehicles (EV) over the next few decades. “For General Motors, our most significant carbon impact comes from tailpipe emissions of the vehicles that we sell—in our case, it’s 75 percent,” Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, wrote on LinkedIn on January 28. “That is why it is so important that we accelerate towards a future in which every vehicle we sell is a zero-emissions vehicle.” The company now plans to sell only those vehicles that have zero tailpipe emissions by 2035, a significant move by one of the world’s largest automakers. In April, Japanese automaker Honda made it clear that the company intends to only sell EVs and fuel cell vehicles by 2040. In Europe, American automaker Ford said it will only be offering electric cars from 2030. By 2025, Volkswagen wants to build and sell up to 3 million all-electric cars per year with over 50 purely electric-powered vehicles.  [Read Full Article](   [Technological Trends That Will Transform The Automotive Industry In 2021]( The COVID-19 outbreak will prompt more automakers to change the status quo and automate processes as much as possible. Technology has twisted the very fabric of our society, giving birth to a brave new world where solutions to problems are a mere click away. In 2020, the adoption of technology – in the automotive industry and its ancillaries – became more vigorous owing to Covid-19. After all, those were the technological interventions that prevented the world from coming to a complete standstill. So, it becomes critical to know how the influx of technology is going to transform the industry this year. Here are a few trends that have the highest likelihood of dominating the segment in 2021: In-Car Sterilization First things first, the COVID-19 outbreak has presented a unique situation in front of us. While vaccines have high efficacy and certain countries now permitting only vaccinated people to step outdoors without a mask, the true nature of the pandemic is largely, still unknown. The virus is rapidly mutating as healthcare experts are still trying to gauge that whether or not COVID-19 will be completely eradicated. In fact, the UN believes it might become seasonal.
