[The Automobile News]( [GM To Announce Cadillac Will Go All-Electric By 2025]( General Motors refuses to be left behind as the auto industry accelerates towards an all-electric future. Tesla may have been the catalyst that helped to ignite change, but GM fully intends to retain its leadership status. Earlier this month, CEO Mary Barra announced plans to bring EVs to market faster than initially planned. Reuters now says Americaâs largest automaker will announce detailed plans of that EV acceleration tomorrow. Barra will once again be front and center as sheâs expected to say the company will spend more than the $20 billion already dedicated to launching several EVs by 2025. A precise figure is not yet available. Furthermore, supplier sources have indicated Cadillacâs all-electric lineup goal will be moved forward from 2030 to as early as 2025. Additional vehicle segments GM competes in, such as commercial vans, will also be included in these plans. Only a few weeks ago, the GMC Hummer EV truck debuted while a near-production-ready Cadillac Lyriq was revealed last summer. Tomorrowâs announcement is also said to include a new timeline for additional new EV market launches. The Lyriq, however, supposedly isnât due to go on sale until 2022 but that date may also be moved forward following criticism it wasnât soon enough. The pull-ahead in programs is real and the organization is really doubling down on speeding up product development,â a source familiar with GMâs plans stated. Itâs also possible the Hummerâs launch could happen sooner, including the less expensive trim levels. So whatâs causing GM to accelerate EV plans once again? A number of factors, like Teslaâs soaring market value thatâs currently in excess of $400 billion, and increasing pressure from regulators to phase out combustion engines. California, for example, has pledged to ban new combustion-engined vehicle sales by 2035. The UK has also just announced a similar plan, though it aims for all new vehicles to be zero emissions by 2030. While many were hoping that Subaru would imbue the BRZ with forced induction of one sort or another, that hasnât come to pass. Nevertheless, it sounds like this new generation will carry the torch in a way that makes real and meaningful improvements to the original car. Letâs dig into everything we just found out about the new 2022 Subaru BRZ. In the promotional video that Subaru released with the announcement of the 2022 BRZ, they point out that so many companies focus on straight-line speed without the balance to handle a curve or two when they arrive. Subaru rally legend once said that âstraight roads were for fast cars while curves were for driver.â Subaru certainly has followed that design ethos by improving the torsional stiffness of the car and achieving a near-perfect 50-50 weight balance. Combine those attributes with a driver-focused cockpit and you get some strong ingredients for what should turn out to be a great sports coupe. What we all wondered though was how much power it would get. This Boxer 4-Cylinder Is Strong Enough To Impress Subaru has dropped its 2.4-liter FA platform engine under the hood of the new BRZ and they say theyâve managed to put it even lower in the structure to improve the center of gravity. This particular boxer motor produces 228 horsepower which is a 23 to 28 horsepower bump depending on the outgoing model that you compare it to. It might not sound like much but thanks to that bump and the 28 lb-ft increase in torque, itâll be more than enough to feel a dramatic difference between that outgoing model and this one. In addition, drivers will have the choice between a proper 3-pedal manual transmission or an automatic with paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel. Thatâs going to give Subaru the chance to employ its radar cruise control âEyesightâ on the BRZ which will be a first. The interior gets a fully digital gauge cluster too. Overall, it seems like this BRZ is going to be a dramatic improvement on the previous generation. Subaru took everything we loved about the little sports car and turned the dial up just a bit without forgetting the whole point of the exercise. We canât wait to drive it.
