exclusive for my bestie’s birthday ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

exclusive for my bestie’s birthday ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  [Listen to the audio version of this email.]( Today is my best friend’s birthday. Here she is, folks—meet the one and only Coach Kathleen Oh. [smiling 50-something white woman with long brown hair wears a single blue latex glove and holds up a rectangular packet of capsules marked "150g"] She has a lot of identities, each more colourful and complex than the last. Safe drug user Ziploc bag hoarder Alberta-born child of settlers Alcohol sober for 5+ years Former NLP Master Practitioner DJ K-Oh Complex trauma survivor Aerial silks dropout Tarzan’s bestie [Integration Coach and Psychedelic Educator]( (new website currently in development—this is the old one) Kathleen has a closet full of graduation caps from her many trainings and certifications as a coach. One of them is NLP, a coaching methodology that’s often practiced without permission and teaches reliance on the coach. (If you watched any NXIVM docs, you’ve seen what it looks like when NLP is used for evil, which it almost always is.) I’ve learned so much watching Kathleen unlearn a lot of her training and figure out how to build consent into her practice. A couple of years back, one of her students, a Black woman, dropped out of her program and pointed to the white-lady-shaped hole in her awareness. That’s when Kathleen really got to work unlearning bias and the ways that the coaching industry upholds systems of oppression. She takes billions of classes and reports back to me what she’s learning. Of all the books, classes and other work I’ve done trying to figure out how to mitigate the harms of capitalism and white supremacy in my business, having my bestie to do the work with me has been the most helpful. One of the ways that Kathleen is using her privilege is to normalize drug use and speak openly about the racist roots of the war on drugs. ([Read her work here]( She is smart as fuck with courage to match. She is an annoyingly honest person who does not sugarcoat or shy away from hard conversations. And she really, like really, loves drugs. If you’re an entrepreneur, a drug user or a curious human, I recommend getting to know Coach Kathleen Oh and her work—especially if your work is connected to the coaching industry. Here are some ways you can access her brains and get support: - Kathleen leads a monthly discussion group for people recovering from cults and coercive control, through the [Lalich Center]( - [Hire her to be your coach]( (pretty sure she has space for two clients rn, but I wanted this email to be a surprise so I couldn’t verify) - Read her work on Substack — here's a popular piece about [how a person with a history of addiction can be a regular drug user]( In the darkest moments of my divorce, when I was treading water in a bottomless well of pain and suffering, my bestie fed me a home-cooked meal at least once a week (or three) and made sure my body did not disappear. It was Kathleen who got me signed up to sprint canoe last year, which basically saved my soul if not my life. Personally I don’t believe in soulmates, but if I did mine would be Kathleen. I’m in Las Vegas at an AI conference today so I won’t have much time to talk to her. As a favour to me, can you say happy birthday to her on [Instagram]( or [Substack]( You will not regret knowing this woman. 🎉💊🎉Happy Birthday, bestie 🎉💊🎉 I love you more than drugs and if you died the thing I would miss the most would not be your cooking. But anyways please never die! Tarzan P.S. This month I’m introducing you to some of the people supporting me right now. Last week [you met my writing coach Suzy]( today you met my bestie, and in the coming weeks you’ll meet three more of my favourite people including my photographer, my web designer and my OBM.  Stay tuned 👂 Want to access your fave emails on the go?
